Re: Alan Wake - it' scaring the hell outta me :)

See, I'm with Cat on this one when it comes to brown trouser time and games!

Amnesia I can only play in little bits, its all about the sound, murky visuals and what you don't see that completely freaks you out. Ancient house / castle that you are trapped in and its just terrifying, the atmosphere to this game is amazing.

Alan Wake is damned fine though, very good story and writing. Must admit though that it made hairs stand up on back of my neck a few times but nothing major.

Melon, I would suggest as you have bad hands get yourself an XBox 360 pad as you can play most new games with that and its really comfortable to hold, I have issues with my hands also and at times can't play stuff with keyboard and mouse for to long. I have found though I can manage much better with the pad at times.

To give you an example of a combat scenario on Alan Wake (Gamepad) : Focus flash light on enemy using left trigger which slows their advance on you and pull right trigger to shoot at the enemy, depending on enemy type it can be a few shots or 7 / 8 to bring them down. During this time though the batteries can run out on your torch so you quickly hit X Button to change batteries, it does flow well and is very responsive with pad. You also tap right shoulder button to dodge if an enemy gets to close to you and swings an axe, you won't be button mashing as such, its more getting the light focused on the enemy which additionally makes them weaker.

Its usually a little program that you run in the background that alters the way the game plays. For example in the case of Alan Wake it would probably be unlimited batteries and ammo, unlimited health so you can't die and the likes, can make a game extremely easy with no challenge at all.

Alan wake Was a brown pant inducing game. I felt dread whenever it started to get dark lol.

Amnesia I played for about 20 minutes with the lights out and HAvent gone back to it since. Really freaked me out!

I somehow had it in my head that Alan Wood was a point and click adventure!, might have to try these.

Anywhere near System Shock 2 or the cradle level in Thief 3?

Question Re: Alan Wake - it' scaring the hell outta me :)

Are you guys seriously suggesting you get scared by video games?

Just that I have Alan Wake's American Nightmare and it's about as scary as... well it isn't scary at all.

Is the original that much better?

I have American Nightmare though I've yet to play it (I've played... 8 hours of Alan Wake since I bought it - great game, but I'm sure something else came along and my attention span is terrible) but from my understanding AN isn't as scary. Alan Wake kinda reminds me of the first time I played the original Silent Hill - I was terrified when it got dark!

If I'm feeling a little better this weekend I might pick this back up again, now that I've *finally* finished the Mass Effect series.

I think the Humble Bundle has expired, it's still available on Steam @ 90% discount tho (for both)... Not sure if it's just one Steam Key, which would b no use to me 'cos I have AN as I mentioned.

Yeah someone else has said AN is nowhere near as scary as AW, maybe they were trying to make it appeal to a different audience?

Both games for £3.10, or AW for £2.30 with AN for £1.20. You'd have to be nuts not to, particularly if you're a fan of survival horror stuff.
