    Steam/NBA 2K13

I was thinking about buying a dvd copy of NBA as it would be much cheaper than the Steam version. However after a quick search online it seems like I wouldn't be able to activate it through steam.
I unaware of how Pc games usually work but if I were to buy the dvd copy would I need to use the dvd to play the game?

Edit: anyone know where I could get a digital download of it? Or if it's likely to be in the summer sale?

I don't own this game but yes it is likely need DVD to play.

For some DVD games I own are noisy in my DVD drive when running so I create ISO images and load it up on virtual CD/DVD drive.

Some DVD games can be activated and played via Steam:

    https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...7480-wusf-3601

If they're not on that list, then you'll need the DVD to play - excluding alternatives like Origin and so on.

Is this relatively easy to do?

Most modern games see that as behaviour like pirating, and therefore block it.

It requires a paid software to do a copy of disc and would be easy to copy in the past Nowadays I am not to sure but I guess it will be harder as disc protection technology improved on modern CD/DVD game, like snootyjim said, to prevent pirating.
