My thoughts on Metro Last Light

Well I just completed the game after seshing it for a few nights. To sum it up in one word I would say - WOW! There have been far to many generic first person shooters being pumped out for years now. I am really quite sick of them. But this is different. They didn't just make a game where you go around and shoot stuff. This an experience! If you like the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series then you will probably like this and Metro 2033. If you liked Metro 2033 then you will love this!

The visuals are just insane. So impressive. The lighting is extremely well done and is an important part of this game. So make sure you setup the gamma slider properly before you start playing! All other aspects of visuals are great too. Then there is some awesome sound design and soundtrack to top it off. At points this game feels like a horror shooter. It really made me jump sometimes. As I would be walking around in the dark with only my torch or lighter to guide me, panicking at every noise I heard and spinning round to see what's behind me. I could go into specifics about this game. But really, I literally loved everything about it! I can only think of a couple minor problems with this game. But they are so nit picky that I'm not even going to mention them.

A lot of thought and attention to detail has gone into this game. The environments are beautifully designed in every way, and the mechanics of the game are great. This is one of the few games that made me glad I forked out for a lovely graphics card. It really put it to use. When this much effort has been put into a game by a company that are not EA or whoever publishes/makes call of duty. I really feel bad for them knowing that a load of people have probably pirated their game. I feel like I maybe have not constructed my words to well here. But it's to late to bother thinking much about that. I just wanted to encourage fans of Metro 2033, and anyone else who is interested in this game to give it a shot and buy it. There is a site called dlcompare where you can find cheap steam keys. I paid less than 20 quid for this game. Very happy with what I got for the money.

Now I wasn't really trying to review this.. But if I were to, I would give this game 9/10. Really looking forward to whatever 4A Games bring out next

Also, as a side note. Have any of you Stalker fans signed up to this? http://survarium.com/en
It's basically what would've been the next Stalker game (called Stalker 2?), but made into an mmo. Or at least that what I read.

Edit: Is it possible to change a thread title btw? Just noticed my typo lol...

What Graphics card do you have? I might give the 680 a bashing with this game.

    Nice writeup by the way!

Ah thankyou. I have a gtx 670 running at 680 clocks. It performs very close to a 680. You can check my whole setup on the left under my username I could run the game pretty well with all the settings on and bumped up to highest. But to me - 60fps solid is priority when setting up a game. So I either had the choice of the "very high" quality setting with advanced physx off, or the "High" quality preset with advanced Physx on. I would also put Tessilation on normal. I will demonstrate why....

    Quality setting explained: http://www.geforce.co.uk/whats-new/a...-light-quality

    Advanced Physx on/off comparison: http://physxinfo.com/news/11443/gpu-...ro-last-light/

I didn't feel like I was losing a lot dropping down to the "High" quality preset. The only thing that bugged me was no motion blur on objects. But my monitor ghosts a bit anyway so yeh lol... There's no way I was gonna turn advanced physx off. It added so much to the atmosphere of the game. I definitely recommend it on if possible. There is also a benchmark tool that comes with the game to let you test some different settings and get an idea of what to use before you play.

If you do get the game then please post back with your thoughts Enjoy!

If you do an advanced edit on the OP you should be able to edit the thread title.

EDIT: I don't know why I didn't read the other responses before I typed that!

Ok, I got a question about these Steam achievements.. Do you actually get anything for them, other than a thing popping up saying you got an achievement? I've never paid any attention to them as they always seemed pointless to me. But I wonder if I'm missing something?

No, nothing really. I do it because I feel a... sense of accomplishment and rewarding. But yeah, it pointless I agree.

Re: My thoughts on Metro Last Light

Achievements are there purely for completionists who want to extend the normal challenge of a game. Ignoring them will not affect anything in any way. I'll be honest, they annoy me sometimes!

Re: My thoughts on Metro Last Light

I see. Well I guess it's nice if you feel you are not finished with a game and want to keep playing, even though the story mode has been completed. Not enough incentive for me personally though. They should do a thing where you could get a voucher for a few quid off a future game from that dev or something. Like, an actual reward for doing it
