    Defiance

I know some of us have bought it in the steam sale.

Must say I've been having fun just wondering about doing quests, often bump into people doing the same quest, but it's never more than that so far.

So is anyone up for some defiance teamage?

    Re: Defiance

Ok I was half asleep when I posted this, it still holds though.

I'm generally having fun, there's a couple of niggly bits I have issue with, lack of solid feed back in the UI being a main one.
eg you've got an inventory list . . sort of, all weapons, shields and mods gets dumped in it, but I've not noticed any indication of how many things you can hold, so you pick up stuff until you get an inventory full message.
And sometimes you pickup things or get given something as a reward and it goes . . . ummm?
eg here, on one of the random spot events that occur, a bug nest thingy appears and you need to harvest something from it without being eaten by bug (I missed the message as I was a little busy dodging bugs) I managed to get the 10 of 10 and I think it said I got some "rare resources" . . . ummm I don't see anything anywhere but it could of just been more of the green Arc tech points
That's another one, the main use for the green Arc tech points I've found is weapon modding, adding slots to put mods into, but on the weapon modding section it doesn't show your total green arc tech points, it shows it in the stats section.
There seem to be no indication as to which weapons you can add slots to or not, only way is to try to mod the weapon an see if it give you the option.

This might sound a bit negative, but overall my experience so far is positive, it does play very much like "boarderlands the MMO"
You'll start by finding basic sinper rilfe, assault rifle, pistol weapons, but as you get farther away from the starting area you find more interesting things.
I'm really liking the "BMGs" and "infector" class weapons.

BMGs fire a fairly short range lightning arc for a constant but small damage, however the arc arcs to anything else in range so it's a great short range AoE damage, instead of aiming it has a secondary fire which is a heal others beam.

The Infector is again short range (but longer than the BMG) unlike normal gun where if the target is too far away you still have a chance of hitting just not a good one, this does not hit, the shots just arc up into the air. The thing about the infector weapons is that they are not firing bullets but parasites, targets get covered in small tick like creatures and take a small amount of DoT.
At first I didn't think much of it as the DoT is quite small, it does last a while but it's not enough quickly enough to mike it viable over a normal gun.
Then I discovered the two things that makes this a good weapon, 1 after a fixed amount of time the ticks explode doing decent damage and 2 if the target dies before the tick explode they get off and look for a new victim to leap on.
Mobs react to lose running ticks, they will run from and try to shoot them, so in a pack of mobs, shoot ticks on one, then swap to a gun and kill him, all the others will now panic and scatter ignoring and going for the ticks.

Must admit I've not found grenades or rockets to be that good, apart from zombies mobs just don't bunch up enough to make the limited AoE effective.

So is anyone up for some defiance teamage?
Just off my random bumping into people doing the same mission this does play better with others.

    Re: Defiance

I've only played for a couple hours and still very much at the start area doing all the quests that show up (I'm a bit of a completionist) and I've noticed the same issues with the UI not being the friendiest.

With the loot not appearing when you have a full inventory you have to bring up the UI, hold space to get the wheel, select store, select claim items.

I'm also having issues figuring out how to do certain things. I'm also annoying that there isn't some easier way to compare loot to what you are currently using. I wish they would give you a comparison to the loot that is on the floor so you can swap out borderlands style.

Feel free to add me to Steam and we can meet up in game when I actually start puting some time in it, at the moment there is too many other games on my too play list due to the sale

    Re: Defiance

Yeah, I am up for some co op play

I'm really enjoying the game and the story arcs have cut scenes so it can be played as a single player game if you want.

I am still using an assault rifle I found as the damage on it is better than anything else I have laid hands on so far. It does standard damage but does the job, think I need to look into some other weapon types, tried a shotgun but they are very hit & miss with the damage and you have to be really close.

Must admit the whole weapon mod thing has been really confusing me more than anything else, I can't mod my standard assault rifle I believe but I did manage to mod one of the diruptor type rifles with a stock, but then proceeded to flog it as damage was naff.

Add me as friend if you can do that, in game name is Connor Fairfax

    Re: Defiance

Anyone else finding themselves underusing their EGO power? I barely touch mine unless its an 'oh ****' moment. I did like using the stealth one with shotguns for a short period but I would find I would run up, unload, have to reload and be screwed... maybe I need a better shotgun with more than 1 or 2 shots

I selected the Invisible EGO power, I only use it when my shields need to recharge. Comes in quite handy when there's loads of enemies swarming you.

    Re: Defiance

I'm not that far in as I too have been doing all the quests (well I've not bothered with the time trials types) and I do stop at the random events that spawn.
Following the story I've left the starting camp and the wreck and I am at the next vendor at the side of the main road. So hardly far in.

On mods, there seems to be 4 types, grip, barrel, magazine and sight, if a weapon has slots for mods you'll see little squares by its name on lists.
Some weapons you can add slots too in the mod screen, you pay some scrap and have to wait 10min real time and it will get a random mod slot, yes I had a LMG I wanted to add a magazine mod too and the magazine was the last of the slots to open so yes it took me 40min before I could put the mag on it.
The annoying thing though is there's no indication as to if you can add slots or not.

I found a shotgun that fired in busts of 3, not 3 pellets but 3 buckshots, wasn't too bad, a slug gun, ie shoots one bullet for 808 damage but it was too slow and inaccurate to be much good.

My general weapon load out is Human LMG (Frontier SAW I think) and a VOT SMG (VOT weapons fire faster but do less damage)
The VOT smg is great at close range, The VOT LMG isn't bad ether, it's like a mini shotgun, not good at range but close/medium it's good.

Ego power, same as grenade . . . I keep forgetting about it, have it bound to my mouse and I use it more now. I went for the simple shoot better, adds a little damage, reduces bloom and zero recoil for a short burst, great for the big mutants as you can almost empty a whole LMG mag into their face.

EDIT: BTW my toon name is Keriti

Ok that was really odd, ferral did I friend the correct person?

Could you see me?, I could see you marker on the map but could not see you on screen.

Might it be our level difference?

Also the chat system isn't very friendly, no way to send pm's/whispers?
    the UI is sooo clunky

EDIT:Ok it seems to be tied to story missions, causes the player with the mission to dephase on entering the mission area

    Re: Defiance

Ok I've found a couple of useful bits

Q: I can’t add mod slots to a weapon. Why?
A: Make sure you have the weapon unequipped

Q: I did a mission/Arkfall but didn’t get any loot. (also happens with lockboxs)
A: Open your menu and go to the Defiance in-game store. Your item will appear in the “Claim item” tab.

Q: How do I remove a mod from a gun?
A: Much in the same way that you applied the mod via the Matrix. Note that if you remove a mod, the mod will be destroyed.

Q: Is loot individual or shared?
A: Loot is individual. You will see your own drops, and others will see theirs. Don’t feel bad about picking up that orange!

I joined in a major arc fall today, a bit red circle with lots of smaller ones, once all the smaller ones are complete the main one opens which was a giant hellcrab boss You're not ranked until the end, I came 3rd

I noticed the inventory slots last night.

When you click character from the wheel, if you look at the bar across the bottom of the screen it has EXP, EGO & inventory slots on it

Did you get my PM?? I was in an area over Bloodbath Turnout and there was a giant hellcrab boos there - where you there too??
