I really cant find any good ones. I bought an edimax pcie 300meg one that now disconnects like crazy. The one im currently looking at is http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-...ith-high-power but its quite pricey. Do you guys think it would be worth buying it or is there anything else i've missed?
Are you on the latest drivers and firmware? I had a couple of the old G standard PCI cards from Edimax - bargain basement but perfectly reliable.
If it is just a range issue then maybe just a new aerial for the card, or I used to use an extension cable for my aerial to get it out from under my desk away from the jumble of wires.
im sure i have the latest driver. Hmmm i never thought to try new aerials whats the most powerful i could get?

I do think it's worth finding out why you are getting disconnects. It could be a bad wifi card or just poor reception caused by the range/interference, do you have a spare to try or a laptop you can put in the same place?
I had an issue with wifi in my current place (1 bed flat), turned out to be just a really crumby router. Ended up with Powerline extenders (with a wifi access point) as it was cheaper than a decent router and gave us a wired link to the bedroom as well.
I used my 360 from the same place gets 90+ percent while my pc struggles with around 60 plus other devices don't get the disconnect problem.
i decided to use the ralink drivers that windows suggests and it seems to be working much better
The ASUS cards are the same, I had a B/G wireless PCI card and it disconnected all the time, as soon as I used the Windows Railink driver for it worked fine, same goes for the replacement I bought a few weeks back which is Wireless N, dropping out all the time with the ASUS driver but fine with the stock Railink.
I would also suggest removing the Edimax driver from your system as it may cause you issues. On mine it kept reverting back to the ASUS driver as it had a newer date, then Windows would say better driver from Update and it was ever decreasing circles.
I really don't understand why drivers are just so bad and broken for sooo many things like wifi cards, sounds cards etc
I had the same problem with my Edimax PCI card. In the end i went and got a couple of Netgear Powerline adaptors. They've been solid!
how do the adapters work? does cross brnad problems happen?(i have a belkin router so would i need a belkin extender etc)
No you can use what ever brand you like. As long as both plugs are the same brand.
