Question Will Nvidia GTX 760 drop in price further?

First post here so be nice

Anyways, I'm planning on building a custom build at the end of the year, and so am looking for deals every now and then. I noticed that many graphic cards have fallen in price (albeit they are 'last-gen,' despite the 'current-gen' being renames), and so I was wondering whether the price of the Nvidia GTX 760 will drop in price by the end of this year.

Currently, they are going for around £200. Could this card maybe drop down to roughly £150ish, by means of a Black Friday deal or something, considering that the GTX 760 is a relatively new card? Right now, I can get an MSI Twin Frozr GTX 670 Power edition for £200 - and this includes a free game. This deal is extremely tempting and I'm wondering whether its worth waiting since the AMD 9000 cards may drop in October.

    Thanks in advance!

I'd say go for a 670 or 700 if you can, they're gonna have a damn good shelf life and for 200 quid, I assure you he 670 is a steal. I had 2 670s at the beginning of the year. 1 was enough, but 2...meh. I was silly. £300 a pop too :/

Re: Will Nvidia GTX 760 drop in price further?

The thing I'm worried about is that I know that the GTX 670 for £200 is a good deal, but I would prefer a 760 for £160ish. Despite knowing that the 670 is the better card, since I'm planning to game at 1080p only, I would prefer the 760 at the lower price. I'm just wondering whether the 760 will actually drop in price because the 600 series stock clearing is massively lowering its price.

On another note, are the AMD 9000 series due in October or is it just a rumor?

i hope so... after AMD launched their R9 XXX cards it seems that GTX should drop price about 30-50 EUR

They've been sat at £200 ish for a while now. I bought a MSI TF 760 for £208 and am really not regretting it. Crysis 3 on ultra (bar AA) ftw!

Not that I'm aware. We're pretty much screwed over with tech prices all year round.

Def go with the GTX 670, more powerful than a GTX 760 with a gentle overclock.

Is this right as I was just looking at the 760 as the upgrade to my 460?

Re: Will Nvidia GTX 760 drop in price further?

Go for the R9 280X kind of off topic a bit but, that's the biggest bang for the buck you can get vs. GTX 760. In most benchmarks it positions itself just under the 780 non-Ti. These cards have no reference design in the market as far as I know, so you'll be seeing custom cards from AIB partner, which is good! or go for dual R9 270X, you won't be disappointed

I'm just saying it. I have an Nvidia card myself but you'd get a taste of the future once Mantle goes full load on titles for the next couple of years.

Imagine this - STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT by DICE!!!

Re: Will Nvidia GTX 760 drop in price further?

I'm a bit obsessive about power consumption, and although AMD/ATi current gen is fast enough, I just don't like their power consumption at all. Quite awful compared to NVidia, and that impacts on the card size too (a 760 card can be tiny - ASUS cards in particular). If you were to indirectly compare the faster 280X to a humble 760, you are looking at around 300watts + compared to 170watts +, which is a huuuge difference. Comparing the 280X to a 770 which is on par more so for performance, you are still looking at an 80watt difference. Either way you look at it, it's either more for you energy bill, more stress on PSU, or alot more heat for your system to deal with. A shame, as I'd like to continue with AMD/ATi, so I'll probably just hope they do better next generation instead, which could be ages away. My current 5850 is still just about okay tbh, but it'd be nice if there was a more economical alternative available right now. :/ *edit* those figures seem to be peak values I got from techpowerup, so extreme case I guess. Regardless, a 280X is just too big for my case at 28.5cm

I hear you. That's also one of the reasons I never got to buy an AMD card. Electricity is expensive from where I am - 2nd highest in Asia Baby . I was thinking you're from those countries where electricity is quite cheap The shortest 760 I saw was that mini from ASUS, but I'm telling you they're more expensive than that OC DC II they offer. MSI has something similar too but I think it's also expensive.

Here's one of the shortest I've seen so far http://www.inno3d.com/product/gtx760_hz2000s.html but it's somewhat hard to find.

Re: Will Nvidia GTX 760 drop in price further?

Amd cards are, in my personal opinion, way more reliable than their Nvidia counterparts. I've experienced both sides of the river and, personally the AMD side has cards that are rock solid. Nvidia cards that I owned tend to give out after a few months. My last Nvidia card was so bad that I couldn't even stay on the desktop without the screen flickering on and off. Needless to say I returned the card and bought an AMD. Peace of mind and quality, are more valuable than a small spike in the power bill in my opinion.

I'm having a similar problem with choosing a GPU. The power usage of the 280x concerns me (although they are great value for money) I really like what MSI have done with the gtx 760. However my concern is, will the 2gb models be enough going forward?

The GTX 760 is an excellent card, if you consider Price/Performance, the R9 270X or 280X would be what you're looking for, but if you take into consideration power consumption getting the GTX 760 for a semi-High End card would be a great decision and would definitely benefit you in the long run. Two 6-pin power connectors or just one 8-pin for the ASUS DC-II.

From what I've been seeing around the net, all these new cards have problems with temperature (not really a problem if you consider around 75C to be normal). So I suggest going with the MSI's Twin Frozr/Lightning or the ASUS DirectCU II or whatever brand with a custom cooler. And this thing is good enough to play games at medium at 1440p, depends really, but everything maxed out in 1080p is great (except for a few games like Crysis 3). This custom cards come in around $270 and the R9 270X are in the $200, push that a little further to $300 and you have the R9 280X - a $30 difference between custom GTX 760 but with a pretty big difference in performance. And by the way, from what I know, all R9 280X in the market are custom designs from AIB partners.

A great upgrade is coming from a GTX 660 to a GTX 760, different price points today, but it's quite a big performance advantage.
