Didn't think when I put my post together that I have samsung RAPID cache on, which caches disk into RAM, max cache size is set to 4gb which it probably uses most of, so that would make sense with what others are seeing.
i'm pretty sure i've seen this game eat about 4gb of ram all to itself on my setup. i wouldn't say that 8gb is necessary though. 6gb should be just fine. but users with 4gb might find it holds them back at times. though i doubt they'll see that much. most of the time when i've checked, this game is only using around 2gb, give or take a bit. maybe just me..
I didn't see this mentioned.
Is it worth buying Premium now with the main game or just buy the standard now and upgrade to premium later when the DLC starts getting released?
this would be consistent with tests I've read elsewhere. done some reading of various bf4 reviews. the consensus is it sits somewhere between 3 and 4GB RAM requirement on Intel. everyone seems to test on Intel. no idea if 8 core FX would benefit on higher RAM than this, nor if multicard GPU makes a difference.

I've gone back to disconnecting during a game now, this game has been nothing but infuriating.
i wouldn't know. about the ram on an 8 core. but i doubt it'll make any noticeable difference to the ram requirements or usage.. having multiple gpu's will surely help though, if you're running it at maxed with multiple monitors or something.
yeh i've just stopped playing it now. it's been a downhill mess since launch for me. i'm playing the new assassin's creed which is absolutely amazing! i think this should keep me occupied until bf4 is in a worthy state
I just got the game yesterday and it plays really well. My setup lets me max the game with 2 x msaa with 80 fps and 50 when **** goes insane.
anyone else disappointed with the map design as it is really geared towards consoles, 64 players is just a mess and to me is unplayable because of the number of people spawning behind you constantly. 32 player is more fun but that's not the battlefield experience right? they're trying so hard to be COD and emulate their success but just end up alienating their loyal fanbase
I think that depends on the mode. Some modes are that kind of random spawn madness. If you prefer old school Battlefield, play Conquest mode. That won't stop people coming up from behind, after all it's a valid tactic, but it can curb the near random spawns like in Domination.
I think they also made a conscious effort to 'de-linearise' the map so that almost every position can be attacked, there are parallel attack routes and there aren't camping locations where you don't have to keep your head on the swivel.
i'm not keen on most of the map designs either. there's probably about 3 or 4 that i like. but something just feels odd about them for a battlefield game. some of them are very open. i don't think this game is trying to actually be like cod though. i think it wants to appeal to arma and cod type players, sure. but generally sit in the middle of both styles (which is basically bf players). which i think it does a good job of. still, generally not diggin the maps all that much.
that is true that it's way harder to camp as a sniper or something. you have to relocate more often and watch your back more. that is really a good thing. but at the same time, these big open areas leave snipers so many areas of the map to find targets from one position. you used to be able to find an alley or some other kind of safe route to sneak up on snipers from when they had a certain area locked down. this is now more difficult. so i don't know what i think of this yet..
Im getting very different performance in sp 50- 60fps normally and then drops to 30 fps when things go crazy. Is this happening to anyone else?

So glad to see the back of that EMP nonsense.-Removed the blur effect on soldiers that appeared when Commanders were using EMP attacks
-Fixed the audio bug where audio sometimes randomly dropped out while playing on certain multiplayer maps (typically Golmud Railway and Hainan Resort)
-Fixed the "one-hit kill bug" where occasionally damage from a single bullet was applied multiple times
-Fixed a common crash that would occur when exiting from the Single Player Campaign to Main Menu
-Tweaked the network and computer performance screen to show proper values. Players can now test their computer and network connection and get recommendations if they need to adjust something to improve their gameplay experience
Nice - that audio bug was annoying and I really want new maps

someone post up if its worth jumping to premium for this - but I imagine its doing wonders for SSD sales, load times even on SSD are bloody awful, and at 4.5GB a DLC its going to eat space.
