Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation
Played some last night (VPN to Vietnam to unlock), was quite laggy but I did like the 2 maps I played (one was a dam, the other was a mainly indoors affair).
Just hope the rubber-banding is sorted as there were only 2 servers with people in last night and the banding/lagging was horrendous :(
Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation
Just realised it's not released here til friday, thought it was sooner they took my money yesterday so VPN here I come.
Don't forget your drivers;

I\'m having terrible lag issues tonight.
On the plus side, FPS wise it\'s great. 1080p all ultra, 60 - 70 fps solid.
Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation
got my preload already :D let\'s hope for the best with bf4! i want to believe it\'s not bf3.5 haha :P
Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation
Played a few hours last night. It\'s not the update that BF3 was over BC2, but it\'s a solid addition to the series IMO. Really good fun.
Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation
Played it a week or two ago on my 760 and running on ultra at a solid 50-60 fps, was rather surprised for a beta actually. o.O
Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation
Has anyone been able to test it on an R9 270x on Ultra Settings?

is the full game out already where you are?
Edit: Is anyone else concerned that amd haven't got any new drivers out yet? The 13.10 Beta2 is the latest for anything other than the newest cards. I tried out the 13.11 Beta driver when I was playing the BF4 Beta and it was terrible on my 7970! It was clearly just a first driver for those new cards. I guess maybe we'll have finalised 13.11 Drivers on BF4 launch day..

Er.. how did you miss the news of beta 6 and beta 7? :p 13.11 Beta 7 is the latest for your 7970. The drivers pretty good IMHO, if you have issues try cleaning out and reinstalling cleanly.

My bad! Do you have a link for them? It doesn't seem to show up when I search drivers on the amd site. Just 13.9 and 13.11 Beta now. I don't get where they hide all the other ones :/
Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation
Oh wow they're up to beta 8 (of 13.11) already, must have spotted a bug. They're part of the 13.11 beta - the version of which gets updated with beta x.

Yes, that version system makes little sense now they've abandoned monthly releases. Just should have a linear version number system.

Thanks for the link :) So they've abandoned monthly releases again lol... I actually like Nvidias way of just releasing drivers when they're ready. A new driver every month is kinda bad because of the deadline. It doesn't ensure the newer driver will be higher quality. I hope amd have learned their lesson :P
And btw - just clicked with something you said earlier! Wish I thought of the proxy idea dammit >_< I did that with bf3 as well lol...
Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation
does anyone know how to change the fov? i'm playing the campaign and the fov slider does nothing at all. it's making me feel sick!
Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation
FOV is locked in SP. Hold over from consoles apparently. It was the same in BF3.

yeh i searched around a little before posting and it seems to be what most people are saying. i was hoping there was some kind of fix available though :/ i've actually been enjoying the campaign, but it literally is doing my head in playing with this fov! i bet they'll patch it later once we've all finished the sp! >_<
Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation
Just had a go in MP on that seaside resort map with a tall hotel in the middle. It was pretty damned good. They tweaked a lot of things from Battlefield 3, shooting is a little more tricky now and the UI is a little more suited to PCs, simply because I imagine its a nightmare navigating the customization menu on a controller. o.O
Kinda wish they ported over some of the controls though (or have some option to) since they store my settings in the cloud anyway. When I got in an AFV, I couldn't even work out the secondary weapon controls for a while. :P
It also seems that long range combat is now more viable in more situations. For example in BF3, if an enemy was more than a couple hundred meters away, you were unlikely to hit them with the coax on a AFV, in this round, I got nearly a dozen kills a long way away before I got taken out with artillery. All weapons seem to have similar tweaks, with projectiles moving faster and accuracy tightened. Can't comment for sure since it has been a long while since I played, but the overall tempo of combat gave me this impression.
Shoulder fired rockets are MUCH better now. BF3 players may remember they were pretty slow and getting hits on moving targets was a challenge (IIRC, there was also a strange lag when you fired and it took a few fractions of a second before the rocket was actually on its way). Not now, rockets fly faster, fly straighter and hit pretty hard. I managed to hit a boat driving away at full speed a good 4 times before it got out of range, the longest hit being perhaps 400m-500m away.
Levolution, as they insist on branding it, can be a blessing or a curse. I was standing on the top of the hotel clearing out some god danmed snipers before my teammates took the whole building down. I noticed some players died instantly when the building crumbled but I managed to parachute down which I thought was weird... in this map, it also meant some capture points can be near flattened by vehicles and cappers hide in the debris.
Oh and level interactivity. This is interesting, old BF players might be surprised by doors which open and elevators which work. I was stood in the elevator capping the center flag when another player came in and started it, taking us to the top. I was surprised. Pleasantly so as this was when I went on a camper massacre. :P Similar story when I was in a beach house capping the flag and admiring the detail they put into it when suddenly an enemy came through a previously closed door. I was saved by the gentleman chasing him, but let that be a lesson - that levels can open up much more now. :D
