Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation

Just had a quick go on the Beta. Gotta say, it ran like crap. Didn't look too great either. Though the skyscraper had already been taken down when I joined. So all the dust might've made things worse. I also remember the bf3 beta didn't have the highest settings enabled, even though you could select ultra. Maybe the same case here. Anyway, just noticed amd put out 13.10 Beta 2 drivers yesterday. Gonna try them out and will let you guys know how I get on in a bit..

Played a few rounds now. Beta bugs aside, lot of fun. Loads of improvements over 3. I like the weapon drops they have lying around, found a 6 shot GL and an instagib rifle so far. In built VOIP is long overdue. Though typically enough my mic is arguing with me today. Wish they'd added commander mode to the beta.

Well I think I'm feeling the same as when I first played it earlier. It looks worse than bf3 (other than some textures), and runs a hell of a lot worse! Seems like the problem of getting lag hit after you've gone behind cover is still there as well, though not as bad. I'm sure the finished game will be better. But even though there's definitely fun to be had here, I'm still finding it a bit of a let down so far..

Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation

Looks a lot better then BF3 to me, mainly due to the huge textures (was using 2.5GB VRAM @ 2560x1600) and added effects.

Downside was it was unplayable due to CPU throttling and/or a stutter in the game engine My CPU (Ivybridge @ 4.4GHz) was never dropping below 92% (with every possible service in Windows 7 turned off), was mostly at 98% and the GPU was 30-80% usage. Turning felt like you were in a boat when it lagged.

My guess is they are putting too much load on the CPU for physics due to all the new effects and destructibles......BF3 was already getting close to maxing the CPU is certain circumstances.

Some of the textures are definitely better, but that's all I noticed tbh :/ I thought everything else looked worse. I will play some more tonight and see if I change my mind about that..

I did a a few runs with everything on the highest setting @1080p (though I had that rendering option right up so I guess it was actually rendering double the res) just to see how it looked and how much vram it ate. I think it took up about 2GB max for whatever situations I created. I kept forgetting to check my cpu usage after playing though dammit >_< Is there a good program for recording this? I don't like task manager because it doesn't let you scroll back through the history of the readings.. or does it??

Re: Battlefield 4 discussion and Hardware requirements speculation

Remember these aren't the final graphics, a lot of the options don't do anything and most of the high/ultra stuff is missing. Also a lot of people have been saying they get better performance with auto settings than even the lowest manual settings. Might be worth a go. I've left mine on auto so far, and apart from an occasional spike that doesn't seem related to what's going on in front of me it's been pretty solidly hovering around 60.

Mine always spits back out to 50% when I change any option even the fullscreen option or just controls etc. Alt+Enter works though. Try that if you haven't already.

Yeh I know this is an older build of the game. But all I'm commenting on is what I'm seeing. I know the final game will be better I tried Auto settings as well and it might just be coincidence, but it seemed to run a bit smoother for that half a round I just played. Cheers for the tip. I'll see how it goes on auto!

I did notice it was a bit faster than bf3. But I think it'll probably make sense when we see the full game. Aren't the maps going to be bigger? They're still tweaking things anyway I guess!

Edit: The game maxed my cpu btw

Edit: Ok after playing a bit more I can say that infantry are pretty much immune to rocket fire from attack choppers! Hit detection on tanks can be pretty terrible at times - I kept shooting a tank in the side from about 50 feet away with another tank, and hardly any hits registered. It runs really badly, though auto settings did appear to help a little bit. But there are some really fun moments. I'm looking forward to the full game, but I still maintain that the beta is quite disappointing over all

Just played a few rounds of domination, that's nuts. Really hectic. Feels lot like close quarters. Great fun, level pretty quick too.

i've never really been interested in that game mode so haven't played yet.. how does bf4 do it? do they give you a smaller version of the level to play on? it's only 32 players right?

It's 2 blocks of the map from around what would be Delta on Conquest large. The bit with the 2 story shopping centre and the other side of the road.

It does feel abit BF3.5 rather than Bf4...I know it's an early build so here's hoping they fix the problems early enough this time around
