What great games have I missed since 2005?

I've been a console only gamer (booo) since about 2005, but have just got a new PC up & running - what have I missed thats awesome? I've played the big console ports, and am mainly thinking of picking up a few strategy games to fill up my library till Arkham Origins.

Civilisation V is the obvious turn-based one.

Supreme Commander Gold is an epic RTS (the sequel is not so good).
Starcraft 2 & Heart of the swarm are the supremely balanced/polished type of RTS game from Blizzard.
Dawn of War 2 is a more actiony/squad based RTS but it's superb as well.

Tower defence wise, Defense[sic] Grid: the Awaking is as polished an example as you'll find, and available for almost nothing in Steam sales.

Was XCOM: Enemy unknown on consoles? If not it's really worth picking up on PC.

I played XCOM on xbox, but not all the way through, might grab it if it comes up cheap. Also defense grid basically ate 2 weeks of my life when it was on arcade. Civ V is already on the list, as CoH 2. Will check out Starcraft

Mines a bit older from around 99.. Half Life and a mod called Action Half Life, it was fantastic. I miss all my old online buddies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_Half-Life

Another vote for SC2, and Planetary Annihilation is currently in Beta, still needs quite a bit of work but it's looking quite good.

Re: What great games have I missed since 2005?

Neverwinter Nights 2 divided a lot people, but it's definitely one of my favourite PC games of all time. Plus the Mask of the Betrayer expansion was really good, too (I haven't got around to playing Storm of Zehir, yet)
Knights of the Old Republic 1+2 are great - if you like Star Wars and RPGs.
Limbo is a beautiful and unique platformer/puzzle solver that has immense charm and style to it.
Portal 1+2 are fun and innovative puzzle solvers, with a very light-hearted feel to them.
The Walking Dead (a post-zombie apocalypse game) is, quite simply, a masterpiece for lovers of deep characters and emotional storylines.
+1 for the Total War games, as well.

Bear in mind, I'm more of an RPG/Platformer/Adventure/Strategy junkie than an FPS/Action/Beat-em-up fan, so, naturally, my game choices reflect this
