So excited for this, just upgraded to a GTX 780 in time for the dog fights
Like others I do have a concern with how the system works in terms of ships that people have bought. I only bought the basic package which offered the alpha and beta for £24, so will that mean I will be getting absolutely destroyed by some other people who have dropped £80+ on the game? Either way I can't wait for this game, spent a ridiculous amount of hours on Freelancer!
you wont get destroyed if you hook up wiht a clan rather than facing off against one the 1st day of play![]()
Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack
off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.
I heard from a friend that the game has a sort of 'police' system where by if you are a player who will just go around attacking others for no reason you will likely get destroyed by the AI for doing so. Do you know if that is true? I guess it would be similar to Freelancer as you determine if you are a good/bad guy if so.
Wouldn't surprise me if it incentivises player enforced policing. That would be pretty epic.
If you're an Aurora trying to take out a Hornet or an Idris in 1 on 1 combat... YES!!
But that's the same if you're an Infantry soldier trying to beat up a naval warship
There is what they call the Rock-Paper-Scissors mechanic, whereby no one ship trumps the others. Each ship will have something it's good at, be it speed, manoeuvrability, firepower, etc. You just have to figure out what suits your playstyle best and fly to your own strengths.
Similar to Freelancer in that enemy AIs would attack you, but different in that you're a marked criminal and instead of a few Liberty Patriots and a Police Starflier that you could bat aside like it was another mission, you will be pursued by a detatchment of Capital ships, escort wings and whatever else. In short, you will be decimated!!![]()
They're selling a load of limited edition ships this week to celebrate the 1st anniversary. So tempted by a 350R armed like a 325 to do the whole bigger than anything faster, faster than anything bigger game and of course it's sooo pretty.

The real cash side is optional. You can buy for real cash, or earn in-game credits. Neither has exclusive in-game purchases, though and neither is better than the other. It's all about having options - Just like you can choose between controlling with Mouse & Keyboard, joystick, HOTAS, gamepad or a combination thereof.
Yes, the amount being spent is insane. I don't have that much anyway, but I'm also thinking I'll just earn them in game, like you did with Freelancer. I'll drop more money in support of this, but it's likely to be on merchandise instead. That way I have loads of things to actually play toward.
Why?
Assuming they can manage to get the crew (PC or NPC) needed to fly the mega ship, they still have to be co-ordinated enough to fly it.
All it takes is a lone fighter with a well-placed missile barrage in a key vulnerable spot and that megaship is toast. It mostly comes down to pilot skill... or perhaps a collective effort from multiple players as an assault force.
There will always be ways!
So are all the buyable ships buyable, after say accumulating resources for around 100 to 150 hours of gameplay??
If not it seems like a pay to win game IMHO. EA would be proud of Oxide games, except if this was an EA game everyone would be having a go at them for doing the same.
