    * Star Citizen *

I just found a few video's Ive not seen before that give a feel for what the on planet battles and atmospheric flight might be like.

I'm really looking forward to this game again after forgetting about it until AMD featured the game in the Hawaii press event.

    Re: * Star Citizen *

I'm just not sure how the game / money thing is going to work for the 'normal' person - there is already a large chunk of people who have dropped $$$$'s into the game to get capital ships (was reading on Giant Bomb of a guy who has put in US$22,000) and the fact that some of the lowest starting costs for a med sized ship is $250 and if you don't like that ship / grow bored well sucks to be you.

When its actually released I'm just hoping its just a normal game but then if thats the case what about all the people that have thrown money at it?

    Re: * Star Citizen *

Theoretically everything paid for can be got in game with in game money too (bar cosmetic differences).

What concerns me though is feature creep - I mean, all well and good creating a space combat sim and multiplayer free form game, but adding in a first person shooter? That's crazy talk.

Already spent about £100 for my own ship, 325a i think along with some money toward a constellation that the clan I am in will be using as a group ship.

    Can't wait.

    Re: * Star Citizen *

I'm really looking forward to this, been following it quite closely and bought the basic package just on the strength on Chris Roberts previous work. Go check his resume out if you doubt his ability to get this done. They've been very open about the development and how they're handling feature creep with the stretch goals; they're focusing on the low hanging fruit basically. Adding adding planetside FPS combat for example one of the recently passed goals sounds like a huge addition to a 'spaceship game', but it's stuff they've already done the groundwork for and with CryEngine is no more difficult than building a Crysis mod with support from Crytek. A great example of it's ease being that video was made by someone on the RSI forums taking Star Citizen assets from the recently released hangar module and dropping them into a Crysis map.

I'm completely sold, if you're not check out their forums and youtube channel, there's a huge amount of dev feedback and the involvement with the community is stunning, it's one of the most open developments I've ever seen and it's helped them built a stonking community.

Got a little tipsy the other weekend and after watching the Elite: Dangerous "Damocles" trailer I was itching for some more spaceship goodness so I had a look and ended up buying into this too.

Picked this up when it was an early Kickstarter as a backup to E: D, looking forward to seeing how they stack up against each other.

This game looks amazing, I've been following it for a little while now. Looks like we'll be able to play the full game in late 2014.

With €20mil to spend, it should look amazing.
I would be surprised if it launches in 2014. Games usually have playable demo at least a year before release - and these guys have only partial working hangar.
Will keep an eye on it - and hope it delivers on promises devs have made.

Yeah. All this real-money buying gameplay thing is what killed this title for me. Not gonna play it.

    Really looking forward to it.

Having said that, I think it'll flop within a few years / numbers will be very low. I really hope it doesn't - we've needed a good space game like this for a while, but I'm not convinced this is the one.

    Re: * Star Citizen *

To address the concerns many people are having regarding feature creep, Chris Roberts posted about it on the RSI website. I can't find the link though; I'm sure if you look for it you'll find it.

Basically, all the features (or at least the vast majority of them) are and have been planned since conception. The feature unlocking through the Crowd Funding simply means that instead of the feature being implemented at a later date, it will be packaged with the game at the time of official release. In other words, there is no feature creep, we are simply "speeding up" the process and will be getting these features soon rather than later.

For those thinking that SC is going to be a Space Combat Sim, you are wrong. It is a Space Sim. Yes there will be combat in it. However, this is a HUGE game with tons of things to do. It will be entirely possible to play the game forever (as long as there are servers etc.) without ever getting into a dogfight. You are simulating an adventure in future Space. So FPS functionality is actually a must; I'd be extremely disappointed if it wasn't implemented, especially since SC's going to be using CryEngine 3.

I'm an original First Day backer, and Golden Ticket holder. This game is going to be so awesome when it is completed!

Which is terrible. You shouldn't design a shooter-elite hybrid. No hybrid of such different genres has ever worked without compromise as one or more elements is simply impossible to polish/develop up to the required standards. Roberts excels at space combat sims. Space sims he's had mixed success with. And as for his first person shooter games...

PS also a golden ticket holder, but more than dismayed at the person combat stuff.

Whats the story with this then? Elite/X meets wing commander meets star wars online meets crysis? To my mind it sounds like a recipe for mediocrity, but if people didn't try new things where would we be?
