As we expected... buggy release at first with plenty of incoming patching!

It's buggy, clunky and needs a lot of polish, but it's not as doom and gloom as the Egosoft/Steam forums and metacritic would have you believe. It is cut down compared to the previous X games, it's not worth the current price, but there's a good game lurking somewhere beneath the crap. I've got 18 hours played according to Steam (actually more like 11, I left the game in the menus a couple of times) and I'm enjoying it so far. If you take it as a game in its own right it's ok, if you're expecting X3 with better graphics then prepare for disappointment.
All the previous X games have been buggy on release as well, and look how they've turned out!
Looking at some of the first impressions reviews I'll be playing through X3 before pulling the trigger I think. At least waiting until someone comes up with some decent trading scripts. Wandering round a station isn't my idea of fun.
Also might dig out X3 again, didn't put much time into it last time.
Anyone recommend some must have scripts/mods for X3?

There's already a mod called NESA (Never Enter Stations Again) that lets you interact with all the station NPCs in a zone from the comfort of your own ship. It has them all in a long unsorted list, but it's early days yet!
X3 is definitely a better game at the moment, but given some time and polish Rebirth's potential might be realised. If you're happy with X3 stick with it until either a Steam sale, or Rebirth matures a bit in terms of patches and mods.
There's a mod called XRM, which admittedly I've not tried, that I keep hearing about. Once I've completed the Rebirth campaign I think I'll give it a go. It works with both X3:TC and X3:AP, but it appears that some features are AP only. http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=304158

Well that was a waste of £40. It's not just that it's ridiculously buggy. I've found more than ten serious game breaking bugs, but parts of the game just haven't been made. Even if it worked properly controlling ships just simply isn't finished, your options are go trade or follow me. No stop, stop guard, work for station or anything like that. Not the only example, but reinforces what really annoys me about this game; even if what was shipped worked flawlessly. It would still be a dumbed down poor impersonation of an X game with a terrible interface(how did they make it worse than X3, seriously?), that doesn't deliver half what it promised and honestly feels like a console game.
There's a solid spaceship game in there somewhere, but right now it's buried real deep. You could build something amazing on top of that simulation, but they haven't.
My thoughts exactly, I just hope they can find it, and if they can't, hopefully the modders can. There's already NESA, which I mentioned earlier, that removes the need to dock at stations. This mod also looks promising - Manual Command Extension http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.p...665bd114d792e5 It's a start at least, and considering the game has only been out a few days it's promising...
So....not worth it at all? ShameI played X3 to death as a teen.
Wait for there to be a ton of mods and a steam sale would be my advice. I'm leaving it alone now til next year to let the mods and patches build up. In it's current state, it's a waste of time. Stick with 3.
As soon as this comes on steam sale i'll probably get it, I enjoyed EVE Online, so I don't see why I wouldn't like this![]()
