    Ubisoft Uplay

    Hello all.

Was wondering if anyone else has suffered the torture that is Ubisoft Uplay?

Im having to use it after getting a couple of free games with my new graphics card and the speeds are painful i downloaded Batman Origins on steam in the time it took to just download the client!

    Re: Ubisoft Uplay

I've dealt with it, but only through Steam. It's pretty annoying, but not the end of the world.

I imagine using it without Steam might be a real pain though.

I have only used it with FarCry 3 and It was nothing special. Dont think they spend too much money on it.

Yeah I have used it myself, just another company trying to get you online with them, not the end of the world as been said just another login to get through though, pointless imo.

    Re: Ubisoft Uplay

it hasnt been that much of a problem but why are publishers creating their own seperate places to sell their games when one awesome one exists. Out of curiousity has anyone here had any major problems with keeping steam in offline mode for long periods?

    Re: Ubisoft Uplay

I don't really mind slow speeds or sub-par service, but I really hate how bad the multiplayer situation is. I could be playing a game, leave it to buy upgrades, and be unable to reconnect for a few hours, sometimes days. Also can't play with friends, after spending hours messing with ports and firewalls. It is fine with single player games however.

IMHO the reason they might want their own storefront is so they can cut out the 'middle man' and sell direct retaining higher margins.

I have not used Steam in offline mode as far as I can remember.

I haven't, and have no intention of doing so.

I'm not prepared to buy a game, ANY game, where having bought it, I then have to rely on getting the company's permission to play it. So, no Steam for me, and if I'm not prepared to use Steam, there's absolutely no way I'd use this.

Of course, that stance means there's a lot of games I'll probably never buy, and those that I might buy will be from the likes of GOG. That means I do a LOT less PC gaming than I used to, but by 'eck has it saved me a lot of money.

    Re: Ubisoft Uplay

I had to use it to play Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon. It's not too bad. Downloads speeds could be better though. At the end of the day i wished i hadn't bothered with these games. Absolutely dreadful. More repetitive rubbish just like Far Cry 2 was. If they are going to make any more of these they need to go back to the same format as the original which was excellent.

I used to have that exact same attitude to Steam et all but since I upgraded my internet connection I love it mainly due to places like humble bundle forcing me to use it and experiencing the ease of just having the game appear on my games list and no pile of DVD cases on my desk!

    Re: Ubisoft Uplay

Its not nearly as bad as Origin I've not had too many issues with it, It's not as user friendly as Steam, but I find its improved massively since the days they were doing the always on DRM (AC2 was the only game I got with that little wonder attached ><)

Yeah, I hear you, but I like a pile of DVD cases. My pile of cases, and boxes, for games would literally reach floor to ceiling, more than once. But I decided ages ago that I disliked the principle behind Steam, for several reasons, and I'm not changing my mind.

Of course, Steam's been very successful, and lots of people do like the positive points, not least one ones you mention. And fair enough. But I dislike the principle enough that if playing a game requires Steam, I won't play it. I'm not alone in that, but it's certainly a minority view and I'm fully aware that Steam won't change, so the result is lots of games I would have played, and a few I really wanted to play, and now won't .... unless they come out in DRM-free versions. It's my loss, but .... so be it.
