short answer: because it goes out of its way to be darned difficult to get to!
Long answer:
1. Installed from DVD, and got to 35% before it asked for disk 2. Inserted disk 2, waited a couple of seconds to let the PC recognise it then hit OK. Result: after 10 minutes of doing nothing I was still at 35% - conclusion being that the installer had crashed.
2. Tried to close Origin and was told that "Battlefield4 is being installed, cannot shut down". Task Manager dealt with that then I rebooted to be sure.
3. Reattempted the DVD install, but setup now seemed to be dead. Even tried removing the Battlefield4 directory in Origin Games.
4. Noted that there was a "Download" option, (I'd been prompted to put in the Origin license key before it started installing from disk 1). Now I've got a reasonably quick broadband, so 2 hours later all 24GB was onboard. Yay!
5. Then got told that I needed an additional patch of 1GB.
6. Patching complete I decided to exit Origin - only to be told "Battlefield4 is being installed, cannot shut down".
7. Thinks I "Okay, maybe if I launch it then that message will go away". Clicks Play which then launched a web browser with Battlelog (oh, I'd forgotten about that). No chance to get it because - surprise, surprise - the Battlelog web plugin was out of date. Clicked the Download option on the dialog that appeared, then clicked it again when the dialog reappeared, and again, ... Eventually a second dialog appeared that gave the option for direct download of the plug in "if there were issues".
8. Downloaded the plugin via this second dialog and ran it. It installed then a couple of seconds later I got the "Battlelog plug in needs updated" dialog again. Closed the browser, reinstalled the plug in and relaunched. All was well.
9. Selected Test Range and had a few enjoyable minutes blasting away. Then exited it and Battlelog and then tried to exit Origin. No joy - as apparently I was still "Battlefield4 is being installed". Arrgh.
10. Selected Uninstall - figuring that uninstalling would cancel that Install message. Nope! And now I'd just deleted the install kit and the patch - very, very stupid.
11. Tried the DVD install again - no joy. So at the moment I'm redownloading the game and the patch - and if I do anything with it then I'm sure as heck backing it up first.
I really should go moan to EA Support about this, but I'm not hopeful of a useful reply. Took at quick gander and some guy was complaining that the help desk had told him to reinstall Windows.
Needless to say, if there's anyone out there in Hexus land who has any suggestions what went wrong or, more importantly, how to fix it - then I'm all ears.
