Deck the last place you can make any form of polite constructive criticism of PF is in the Ubi forums. It is literally the home of the unconditional fanboy, even if the Zeros did mach 1 (which they nearly bloody can in the QMB) they would feverishly defend oh mighty Oleg for his divine creation.
Burn ye sinner who doest speak ill of thy holy master...
My main gripe with PF is fairly simple. The entire balance of the PAcific Air War was swung when US pilots realised that they could not defeat Japans primary carrier based fighter in a turn fight.
Team tactics and superior speed in later aircraft are what beat the Zero in the Pacific
This is NOT modelled in PF, and this pi55es me of more than any thing else.
The AI flight modelling is still b0llocks, pump your entire magazine into a victim and watch him fly off on fire and incapacitated, he's going to explode nicely in oooh lets say 30 seconds to 1 minute.....but no...wait...whats this... here come your entire squad of 'team mates' who magically and with laser like precision place those last 2 .50 rounds in his airframe to blow him to pieces and claim your kill. What had they been doing up to that point whilst you were turning him to swiss cheese ?
Sweet fanny adams.
Fly an F4 Corsair and watch as you reach phenominal speed in a dive, roll and pull a turn at the bottom that cuses your pilot to black out, yep, that 1941 Zero is srtill right behind you riddling your fuselage with machine gun fire.
A plane that was so light in construction and grossly underpowered that whilst it was unbeatable in a low speed turning dogfight, would be left almost stationary in the air by much faster contemporary US fighters by the 2nd half of the war, its ailerons were so light that they would lock solid at excessive airspeed and the plane could not follow its opponents in high speed maneuvers.
To not model this is criminal in a Pacific Air war flight sim, the AI has always spoiled the IL2 series for me, and has always recieved the least attention throughout its development.
Now we get them flying into hills in the first A-20 / Beaufighter campaign mission.
I'd like to know just what game the beta-tester were testing, and I can only assume they weren't paid for a job that clearly wasn't done.
Don't get me wrong, I love this latest incarnation of the series, but I also HATE what has been allowed to happen to it so unnecessarily.
so....its popular then?

Well Im hardly touching it atmGot to the CBA stage with it.....Frustrating as hell to want to fly a Beaufighter career and be on your own everytime..The only way I can see to get round it is promote yourself at the start so you alwasys take lead and can dictate the altitude
kind off defeats the idea of a career if you jump to the top
Havent tryed it yet tbh but only option I can see
Blind alliegence isn't just limited to the Ubi-zoo either..

I'm glad I didn't buy it then..

I'm still pondering over buying this (am also broke so haven't bought it yet), so would it be a wise move to purchase PF?
I cant comment as I've not really played it much but te general concensus seems to be no, dont buy it until they release the official patch...
probably not until it's been patched to a decent level, it'll also save on all the downloads by holding off..

Coolio, I was considering it as I have already noticed a fair number of servers popping up that are PF :s
increasingly the online hosts are using v3.00, especially in VEF
Bellum War is still mainly v2.04
'Make mine a Spitfire, Landlord!'
Well, mine went back to the shops yesterday and I got a refund.
I reckon that says it all really.
With the state its in at the moment, its really not worth bothering with. Sure, you can muck around in QMB but after half an hour of one on ones you will have exhausted all the NEW planes here... and there ain't many of them. We've already seen versions of the Ki and the A6M in AEP, there's no flyable G4M (even though it says so on the box).
There are only about 8-12 single missions for a few plane types that are anything other than take off and land carrier practise missions, and most of those missions involve flying an AWFUL long way before you see any action.
Career missions aren't much better. As said before, the Beaufighter career is bugged so badly that your entire group crashes into the hills each time, leaving you with no hope of completing unless you go invulnerable with infinite ammo, but where's the fun in that?
Careers with other plane types and armies aren't much better with huge distances to be flown before you see any action and the usual uber sniper flak taking you out pretty quickly or damaging you so badly you have no hope of making it back to base. I know that this might be realistic, but is it fun?
The flight models aren't particularly good either, as Skii said, some planes just DON'T fly like that. Load up an IJA career and go up against the P39s and watch them out turn your Ki, which is just not possible, or the old bug bear of AI planes seeming to fly sideways, bleeding speed faster than using an anchor etc etc.
Better still, go to QMB, stick yourself in an A6, go up against an expert Dauntless and watch him out manouvre you too.
Those are just the major bugs, there's loads of small ones too, such as the speed bar toggle not working in certain plane types, the weapons loadout screen not working for some planes (you can change stuff, it just doesn't carry forward into the mission), random hangs due to AI routing conflicts, and the list goes on and on....
So, no, don't fork out your hard earned for it, certainly not if you're a bit strapped for wonga as you'll end up feeling REALLY ripped off, like I did.
I'm going to wait until the patch is out, then see what others think before investing my cash in it. If that means I ened up with no-one to fly against in HL, then I'll run my own server.
Or seeing as Ubi have ommited to include any dedicated server software, I'll play on the Marlins server so kindly provided by GSV and superbly run by Mr Clingy (who never gets enough thanks for that, imho!)
If it's that bad, and the MA server stays 2.04 I can see it becoming quite popular once everyone else converts to 3.00![]()
to keep this in slight balance, I shall try to defend it...but only to a point.
Its got new planes for me to fly in, and to crash
The islands, when you skim over them are superband I do like that whole idea.
The ships looks flippin superb
But....and like Queen's Fat Bottomed Girls, it IS a BIG BUT....its only worth £15 as an add on
I'll get my flying coat and go
