    Disappointed with PF.....

Well guys i've been playing with it a bit over the last few days, and while i love the game, i'm very concerned with balance issues on this game, the american planes seem to be far superior to the japenese planes, more armour, better more rounded firepower, more ammo...

I mean some american fighters can fit 3* 1000lb and 8 AP hvar rockets on them.... The japense haven't even got a flyable heavy bomber for goodness sake !.

we've got two 39' stuka equivalents (achival and a.n.other) and they carry 2 * 60kg and 1 * 250kg bombs!!.. woohhooo thats going to do a lot to a carrier !.

Saying that things do look amazing, and a flyable B25!!!!!!!, omg i love it!.

But yes need more Flyable japanese planes, as there aren't a great deal available...

Oh yes and a flyable avenger please

Oh and don't bother playing career play, i've just spent the last 15 minutes on *8 speed to get to target, and i gave up because i got bored of waiting. navigation by compass only, when i went to review mission brief, i'd nearly got to target, maybe another 5 minutes on *8 and i would have got the the enemy carrier....

But goodness sake if i'd have flown that on normal speed that would have been nearly 3hrs flight time!.

Average Beaufighter mission is 1 and 1/4 hours! And to be fair what you describe re the differences is planes is how it was But a Heavey Jap bomber is needed I agree.

Important balance tho, Historical accuracy VS playability, sure maybe people buy the game for the online play, but i'm not sure they've quite captured the pick up and play issues that exist with the current campaign mode

We wil have the Betty soon.. says on the box that it's flyable... but Oleg did say they ran out of space on 2 CDs for all the cockpits... and that more aircraft will be added in the patch.. so don't count chickens yet chap.. personally, I think the planeset atm is very promising... and the Val can do a hell of a lot of damage if it's used right (although it takes 12 of them to sink a carrier) I set up a crackin co-op with them around the Midway map if ya want to have a go at that

I am sure the patch will sort this. No flyable torpedo plane for the Japanese is the biggest omission IMHO

Also remember as a Japansese pilot you can use your plane as a bomb. It is the honourable way to go.

Gotta wonder where the 'patch' is.... if they had that many planes but "couldn't fit them all on the two cds" then why haven't they released a patch with the extra planes right now?

Of course, if they're going to leave it 6 months and then release the extra planes as a paid for add-on pack they can get lost.

I have to go with TiG here on this. The game is a touch over-priced considering what you actually get..... not as many flyable planes as IL2 or FB gave you, not as many scenarios, fewer single missions that are anything other than generic 'atke off/ land' missions and umm.... well, that's it, isn't it? Not much for £24.99 (or £34.99 if you go to PC World)...

That said, its pretty much a compulsory purchase as everyone will buy it for online play and thats that if you want to fly online, which is where I do the majority of my flying now.

I just hope BoB is a LOT better than this. If Oleg and Ubi need inspiration, they could do with taking a good long hard loo at Lucasart's BoB on the Amiga. Its something like 17 years old now, but THAT was one awesomely good BoB game.

    Here's hoping!

Aye have to agree its more of an add on feel than stand alone, as a stand alone its not far enough ahead of what we have now...And a lot less than you get with FB & AEP

I've just spent the last hour reading threads on UBI boards on general opinion on PF, and i have to say its less than favourable. It does come back to most of my points as well, lack of proper single player missions, that don't take 20 minutes on times 8 speed to get you in the fight and then have a quick death to flak and get frustrated to hell.

The lack of planes, and fact that is isn't new, its just an Add on. The list goes on and on over there.

The fact that its been available as a standalone has caused huge problems for people who have tried to get into this, who are now faced with the requirement to buy AEP+FB to even play online with most of the rest of the community.

The usual no dedicated server from Ubi. Knowing them it will be months before they get this sorted.

Also the promised patch with extra planes they couldn't fit on the CD's. Where is that, it must have been ready if their excuse is to be believed?

Yeah, I have to say i'm a tad dissapointed by it.

On first looks (I only played it for awhile) there doesn't see to be many flyable Japanese planes, only the Val, Zero (A6m*) and Ki flyable (correct me if i'm wrong)

Like the look of all the American fighters, look pretty cool and I love the flyable B-25.

But I can't help thinking this could have been released at add on price, not full game price and why isn't this patch here already?

I second everyone regarding the lack of flyable Japanese planes - seems like a real allies bias (I guess Oleg figured out where the bigger market might be - the US)

    I do love the Beaufighter.

I love the challenge of carrier landings.

The maps are fantastic! I particularly like New Guinea.

I'm disappointed that some of the pilot career missions seem so poorly made and tested (the first Beau mission - they all crash in mountains!!!!)

I'm vaguely suspicious that some of the ordnance on the US planes is a bit overmodelled. It couldn't have been that easy to sink a Jap carrier surely?

Also, does anyone else have a bug on one of the US fighters in which the undercarriage can't be operated?

    'Make mine a Spitfire, Landlord!'
