problems after buying new hdd for games

I moved over all my games but i started noticing graphical problems with bf4(weird artifacts and effects when shooting objects), papers please(fullscreen will not work at all) etc So i decided to just delete everything and start from scratch and download everything again. Ive only been able to download papers please so far and the full scrren thing still isnt working. Im sure i originally moved everything correctly but is it possible that some part of the games ie direct x version something was on the old hdd and i didn't move it over or something along those lines?

Sorry for the grammatical errors but i was typing quickly and sparadically

Have you reinstalled on a new disk? Or have you just copied the games to the new disk? If its the latter then something like steam mover will be more reliable (even for non steam games) as it links rather than moves the files, so no danger of missing files.

Re: problems after buying new hdd for games

I followed guide online that i have used before where you just move the steam app folder delete everything else except steam .exe and then copy everything to the new drive and run the steam exe and everything is supposed to be configured correctly. I started to have the problems so i just uninstalled everything and then just reinstalled doing fresh installs on the hdd.

Ive also run repair of installs of effected games but no missing files. Im also chalking up problems with sim city to the ddos attack on origin.

If you still have the games on your old hard drive, delete the new steam folder on the hard hard drive and try again using as mentioned steam mover or similar.

Hopefully that will provide a more positive result

Re: problems after buying new hdd for games

I wiped the drive again and installed steam and some games fresh via new downloads and they work fine. However theres still issues with everything origin related. Sim city loads up but i can't get into my city in fact i can't load into any server and the saboteur still wont install. Do you think this is related to the ddos?

Re: problems after buying new hdd for games

I managed to fix it by doing loads of different things. I reinstalled steam and origin again(moved the installers onto the hdd first), then i installed virtually every dxinstaller on the ms downloads page.
