I've almost finished setting up my new NUC HTPC/gaming build. I've installed Steam and some lightweight games, but I'm hitting trouble getting a controller to work.
I've got both PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers, but I figured the PS3 ones would be easier to setup as they're bluetooth. I tried using the motion in joy drivers, but they don't seem to want to play.
What do you guys use? It'll be for stuff like Shank and MAME emulation.
Just stick with the 360 one for ease of use. If wires really bother you, you can get snide wireless adapters off the bay for about £7 that works with the wireless 360 controllers just fine.
OTOH, MS should soon be releasing the PC driver for the XB1 controller.

More PC games support the Xbox controller, typically due to Microsoft intervention either through Games for Windows Live or parrallel development on PC's and consoles. It's why we get these god awful control systems and UI's that are aimed at someone without a mouse to click & drag objects

Wireless 360 controller all the way for me, hook your PC up to the TV or use a WHDI transmitter to the TV and you can sit back on your sofa and play anything with controller support. For games that are keyboard and mouse set up a profile in either Pinnacle game controller or XPadder and you are sorted.
I'm a fan of the PS3 controller route personally, but rather than the Motioninjoy drivers, I'd recommend Scarlet.Crush's Xinput Wrapper.

I've had plenty of success with an old Saitek controller and x360ce, but for general compatibility in Windows the 360 controller is probably your best bet.
Im using a 360 wired controller until the steam pad comes out
PS2 controller connected to PS2 to USB adapter (cheap made from china) and combine it with x360CE emulation/software for some games that is mapped to 360 buttons.
I was looking forward to the steam pad but all the bad reviews are starting to put me off
I used a wired 360 controller for years before getting the Wireless one with the PC adapter last year.
