    Tips for Dayz

Has anyone got any tips for how to get started on dayz? I just got it in the humble bundle, and seem to die after 10 mins every time...

If you keep playing you'll get used to it. I think everyone dies quickly at the start. Try and play it cautiously and don't rush into things.

    Re: Tips for Dayz

Best piece of advice is try to play it with people and not on your own if you can. Going it alone isn't really the best way in that game, especially as a new player.

    Re: Tips for Dayz

Would you suggest that you need a mic to start playing then, or is it OK to go in silent?

i think it would be beneficial rather than stopping somewhere in cover and having to type very quickly to stop some random from blowing your head off

    Re: Tips for Dayz

A mic is very helpful for meeting people. Switch to direct communication with . or , to talk to people nearby.

Playing with friends is a lot more fun, but you can have a lot of fun on your own too.

There's two main ways to loot somewhere - crawl around and go slowly so you don't agro any zombies, or sprint, loot quickly and get the hell out. First tends to result in less death but takes longer

Don't trust anyone wearing a ghillie suit. Also, don't wear a ghillie suit!

Only use a pistol or melee in a town unless you want every zombie in the town to come give you a hug.

The fire axe makes pretty easy work of zombies. One hit and they are down, if you find one then hang on to it!

    Re: Tips for Dayz

To start off I normally go north, stay away from the larger cities and loot the smaller towns and barns until I have decent kit. Its the safest and easiest way to get going. Take it slow and steady in towns so as not to aggro zeds.
Once you have decent kit then you can start making forays into the larger towns and airfields although I'd be wary about going to those without back up on heavily populated servers.

Biscuit I assume you are playing the Standalone? I have that so I'll add you - my steam id is georgeousxxx (don't ask, I get enough comments about that stupid name lol)

I didn't think the mod had the fire axe?

If we were talking about the standalone though, I'd completely agree about the fire axe. I'd also suggest running in circles around zombies whilst hitting them since they struggle to hit you then.

Hatchet is still pretty useful in the mod.

    Re: Tips for Dayz

If you play Dayz standalone as a solo player the game will be alot more frustrating, this game can be played much easier if you are with a clan of sorts using a voice chat program like team speak or mumble
