    Wireless mouse thread.

I am thinking about getting a Wireless Mouse to replace my 8 year old Logitech G5 which has started suffering from intermittent sensor issues. I thought it would help if I could get people with a Wireless mouse to post comments, views/mini reviews on their Wireless mouse models as so far every mouse I have considered seems to have some sort of latency issue, battery life problem or other niggles that makes them unsuitable for my needs (gaming).

So far I have shortlisted these:
    Logitech G700S
    Razer Ouroboros
    Gigabyte Aivia Uranium
StellSeries Sensei Wireless (not out yet)

But will consider other worthwhile wireless gaming mice.

    Re: Wireless mouse thread.

    I own a Logitech G700S.

Costs about £80, last I checked, but I won mine!!
Took about a week to get used to this after my beloved CM Storm Inferno...

Battery life - I use it all day at work and then game up to 7 hours at home, before doing the same the next day and sometimes the third. I don't know what other wirelesses are like, but I understand this is quite good?

Latency - I have not noticed any lag myself. Even from about 12' away, it seems just fine to me.

Fit - I have large hands. This just about fills them. I'm not a fan of the thumb cutout on the left side so much, but it works well.

Feel - It's a weighty thing. Not overly heavy, but far more solid-feeling than my Roccat Kova. Weight is not adjustable. The surface has nice textured areas, working well for Palm or Claw grips. All buttons click positively and responsively, including the scroll click.

Buttons - One of the main things I usually buy stupidly expensive mice for. This has four above the thumb and another three left of the index finger. The scroll wheel jogs as well and there's another button behind the scroll. Every button is customisable - In total, that's 15 functions you can assign.

Lights - Three, on the left side. Variably, they will indicate one of three battery charge levels (in green), your selected profile (in orange) and your selected DPI setting (in red). Very nicely done.

DPI - Five slots per profile, with a choice of fine tune from something like 200 to 8500 DPI. Assign a button to cycle through, if you like. I use the scroll wheel jog to go up and down them.

Profiles - Multiply the 15 possible functions by the five different profiles. That's 75 slots for all your macros, key combos and whathaveyou. Just got to remember where you've assigned them all, or check the config software.

    Other Features:

    • The charging cable is also a data one, so you can use your mouse while it charges. Charging takes a few hours and it's done well within a normal working day.
    • There is one more button, which is a scroll wheel clutch. Switches from klik-klik-klik scrolling to a free-wheeling sort of action. Great for whizzing through looooooooooooong web pages and documents, to find the bit you wanted. I find it useful.
    • The wireless dongle is tiny and fits in its own socket under the battery compartment cover, for easy portability.
    • The battery is AA size, so you can use one of those if you forget the charging cable.
    • Software ties in with other Logitech devices and is very user-friendly.
    • Charging cable is Ye Olde Plasticky type and somewhat stiff compared to modern braided ones, but a good length and works fine once you find a desk routing to keep it.

Overall, this is probably the best mouse I've ever had.
If I sound like a gushing Logi-fan, it's because this works very well for me. I have a lovely 1st gen G19 as well, although that's all the Logi bits I own.
Could do with some more buttons for the middle finger and I haven't bothered figuring out how to create a DPI Sniper button for FPSes (probably just a DPI select macro for when a button is held, or something) yet, but I do feel I'm only using a fraction of this mouse's capabilities!!

Thanks. Congrats on winning it as a prize. How long have you been using this mouse?

It sounds like it's one you would heartily recommend and a good short write up, it has been very helpful.

    Re: Wireless mouse thread.

I've only got a LogitechM555B(Bluetooth). I bought it thinking it would be great for basic use, and I'd find myself a gaming mouse at some point. It's easy to use and slick. I use it for gaming. Batteries last months. Red light flashes when they are low, and need a recharge.

Using the G700 and like it a lot, but would like to try the new G602. The G602 has amazing battery life, 250 hr continious gaming and a 1440 hr low power mode. Doesnt have the continuous scroll wheel, the sensor doesnt track on glass but you are mostly likely going to be using a mouse mat on a flat surface. Only 2500 DPI, but imho thats more than enough.

Thanks eyezpy. Does anyone have any experience with any of the other mice on my list?

If not I might well order the G700S this afternoon.

Err, since April last year, I think. I got it on the day they were released.
I'd been considering the earlier gen G700 mouse for a while before as well, since so many people recommended it to me. The new S version adds a few minor extras over the standard 700, but even the first version is still a great performer by all accounts... and they are probably going cheap these days. PC World sold most of theirs off for about £30!

I was thinking about ordering this from Scan but when I went in to town today I saw Maplin had it for £89.99 so I ended up buying from them instead. I got a Corsair Mouse Mat too.

Let me know what the corsair mouse mat is like - mine has become sharp at the edges and is hurting my wrist.

    Re: Wireless mouse thread.

KeyboardDemon(now mouse demon!) Give us a review of of the G700S when you've tested it. I have noticed that when I'm gaming it's more responsive if I hold the mouse just slightly off the mat. So I think a hovering mouse might be what I need. I've seen the BAT, which uses magnets to hover. Has anyone tried an air mouse? Basically I want a 'small hovercraft mouse'!!!

    Re: Wireless mouse thread.

The mat is a Vengeance MM200 Standard edition and measures 300x360mm, the mouse glides over it effortlessly and just using it on my Windows desktop the pointer seems a lot more responsive on the mat than it does on the table, but I might have just imagined that or it might be some sort of purchase justification type thing going on, as other people in the house that have tried the mouse on and off the mat think that everything is the same, with the exception of noise levels maybe.

I haven't had a chance to test the mouse in game yet but I have set up a profile for Battlefield 4 so when I get time I'll give that a go.

    Re: Wireless mouse thread.

I had some time to try out the gaming functions on my mouse today, in game the mouse seemed fine running at the default 3200dpi so that seemed ok. Next I thought I'd create a profile, Battlefield 4 uses the same key controls as Battlefield 3 so I copied the Battlefield 3 profile onto a new BF4 profile and set it to run the profile when the BF4.exe and BF4_X86.exe then dragged some of the commands onto my G keys. I loaded up the game to try out the profile, pressed a G-Key and nothing happened, so I pressed another and another until I had tried them all and none of them worked.

I don't use profiles in that way myself, but I do use the game profiles on my Logitech keyboard.
The keyboard does recognise different games, so if you have the BF3 profile simply copied over, it will basically say, "No no, I can't run BF3 commands, because this isn't BF3, it's 4".

I simply program in functions game by game, so it may work if you do it that way.
Also - What commands are you using?
I messed up in Mass Effect 3 because although the commands should have been the same, I had not set the game's keybinds up to match!

It's the same software, so if the software supports automatic profile switching for the keyboard then it should be doing it for the mouse, shouldn't it?

Does that mean you have to program all of G keys you want to use every time you play a different game? Sounds long, and not very convenient.

I wanted to bind the G keys on the mouse to do things like let me go Prone when I hit G10, Toggle Crouch on G9, Firemode on G8 and then use the four buttons on the side by my thumb for Use knife and for selecting three of the four weapon slots. The software has a preset profile for Battlefield 3, but as far as I can tell this can be used on either keyboard or mouse as all the profile has are commands for things like All Chat, Crouch, etc... so binding that command to a G key on either the keyboard or the mouse should allow me to perform that action, ie crouch, go prone etc...

In the end I had to set the profile to be a persistent profile and that worked but it is far from ideal, I was expecting the software to let me create different profiles that would run when different exe files are launched so I could assisng menu shortcuts in Photoshop, or launch different applications in Windows Explorer, Navigate to different pages or go back and forth in Chrome etc... all without having to interact with the driver software once the profiles have been created.

    Re: Wireless mouse thread.

The keyboard does have set profiles for various games and it does switch to them, but that only works if the keybind settings in your game match the keybinds already on the keyboard.

In fact, I don't think I've found any pre-set profile for a game that has been any different to using a normal £10 keyboard, as far as the keys go. Nothing has come with anything programmed in to the extra G-Keys and regardless of which of the three User profile buttons I switch between. It just seems to affect what is displayed on the LCD screen.

On the mouse, it works the same and depends what you have set the G keys to do in the first place.
For example, in my games I always have G10 mapped to the 'I' key and then set the games up for 'I' to be the Reload command.
If you have G10 set to 'I', but in your game settings the 'I' by default opens your inventory, then no it won't work...

TBH, I'm not sure what the pre-set game profiles are supposed to do and I always end up changing the in-game keybinds to what I want anyway, so I'd recommend just setting your mouse keys to whichever keys and macros you might want, then just configuring the game itself.
I generally have IOP, KL and NM mapped to the gaming profile, with the profile selector to switch between my different user profiles for other apps.

Take a look at this screen shot:

In the left Window you can see how that profile allows me to have a pre-set list of commands for All chat, back, etc... and then on the picture of the mouse you can see that I have set certain G keys to perform specific functions in the game and when this is the active profile it does exactly that, so I press G10 and a 'z' appears on my screen or in game my character goes prone.

In the Window on the right you can see Profile properties and then it says that games that use this profile, now my understanding is that I can create profiles and in the properties and link those to .exe files so that then when I run those programs the linked profiles will become the active profiles, this is the part that just doesn't seem to work.

In the main Logitech Gaming Software section you will see a + and then a Circle with a grey wedge filling one third of the circle, this scans for games on your PC, where a profile exists in Gaming Software database it will make that profile available to you and should also then link the profile to the relevant executable for that particular game, once done you can drag and drop commands where you want them. The next stage would be to create scripted events such as hitting a G key to have it open All chat, type 'good game, thanks' and send that or even more complex sequences.

This way if I go from Battlefield 4 to Word I can automatically switch from G-10 being the key I use to go prone (z) to the key I use to paste (Ctrl-V) for example and then load Photoshop and use that same G-10 key to bring up my quick selection tool or launch Camera RAW etc... But none of that will work properly if the Gaming Software isn't recognising when I change from one app to another.

CBA to go through the post above, however, after loading up the profile, removing the .exe files and the putting them back in, exactly as I had done before, I now find it is working as it should have done the first few times around.
