    Skyrim Mods

What sort of mods do you guys use on Skyrim on the PC? I've been playing around and (when not battling with compatability between mods) found a few that worked really well. They're not, however, really using the full potential on the graphics side of things so wondered what sort of mods you guys use? I'm only really using mods from the Steam Workshop (can't get Nexus Mod Manager to work for some reason) so if there are mods from there you would recommend that would be cool

What are the specifications of the system you use??

Also try and get NMM working - you do need to be logged in and sometimes the sites does go offline.

I have a couple of dozen of mods installed with Skyrim so should be able to help.

    Re: Skyrim Mods

NVIDIA GeForce 760 card, Win7Ult and 8gb RAM. Not sure if you need any other details? Got my build on a document on the main PC but at work at the moment so can't check

I didn't use NMM for a while and when I tried to log back into my account on the website it says I'd been permanently banned and it then wouldn't let me set up a new account to get back in. Not entirely sure why - might've had my account hacked or something perhaps. I do remember having trouble when I originally tried to get into the website as well, so might just not be going the right way about getting in.

Edit: Found an email I sent with the final build so updated my profile with the complete build

    Re: Skyrim Mods

I use a combination of NMM and the Steam Workshop. Some of the best mods are NMM only ATM. I will try and compile a list of what I use and what order you should load them in later on.

    Hopefully it will be helpful.

BTW,your graphics card should be fine - what CPU do you have??

    Re: Skyrim Mods

I've steered clear of Nexus Mod Manager, Skyrim lets you control the load order by default so it's use is greatly reduced from previous games. Same applies for the Skyrim script extender, anything injecting new behaviour into a DLL is potentially untrustworthy, or can be used for non-game uses.

The mods that I've been using have mostly centred around improved graphics, like the HighRes packs from Bethesda, and various texture improvements from Nexus.

One I can recomend, if you liked Hardcore mode on Fallout: New Vegas, is "Eat Sleep Drink Bathe" it forces you to pay attention to food and drink, without going overboard.

    Re: Skyrim Mods

The only problem SKSE is required for some of the mods, especially the more complex ones. TBH,as long as you have sufficient security software and scan everything regularly you should be fine in most cases. Things like SKSE and NMM are used by 100s of thousands of people,so if they were doing dodgy things someone would have uncovered it by now(at least that is my reasoning).

Remember things like Skyboost required SKSE and that has 175000+ unique downloads.

The sad thing is the Steam Workshop does not host many of the mods, and neither are they updated by the authors as often,as most of the people don't bother with it,as Nexus mods is the de-facto Skyrim modding portal.

BTW,forget the Whiterun Lite mod(the normal one looks better).

I use the Bethesda HD textures as they are not too bad and present less of a memory load than other ones IIRC.

My character mods are from NMM and I have changed the look of all the male and female characters.

    Re: Skyrim Mods

One the best things for image quality is to play with the grids loaded, though it can mess with event triggers, but I find it doesn't effect things too much.

BOSS is great for auto setting your load order correctly.

If you want to use an ENB, Realvision Option A is my favourite.

SkyUI and A Quality World Map are two that I wouldn't want to play without. SkyUI makes the inventory so much better and easier.

    Re: Skyrim Mods

    Here is my mod listing:

Prob my fave ones off the list are Wet & Cold, Winter is Coming, Cloaks of Skyrim and Frostfall. They work so well together and the W.E.A.R. of Frostfall where different armours / cloaks add different levels of protection from the elements as you slowly freeze to death when caught in a blizzard so keeping a set of fur gear with you for those frosty days or stopping to camp to dry off after falling in the river... really adds a lot to the world as you are exploring (along with NPC's equipping cloaks and putting the hoods up when it starts to rain etc)

If your PC is powerful enough, you might me able to get something like this with an ENB mod and some others mentioned above:

    Re: Skyrim Mods

I recently started playing with the whole RealVision ENB with all the recommended mods... after a good couple of hours faffing I had a very good looking Skyrim that ran like dog poo on my 290 and crashed every 10-15minutes.

I'll stick to my old mod list with a not so good looking game

    Re: Skyrim Mods

I guess there are lots of variables but when I tried Realvision ENB and the recommend mods it was unstable. Think I even tried it three times from scratch with a clean install (I had the sense to copy the clean install elsewhere first) and I never got it working stability. Also, while the ENB shaders do look better compared the Bethesda ones, I wouldn't call them realistic either. From Bethesda's fantasy look to god-rays everywhere or realistic lightning so realistic that there are only six hours in the day when you can actually see anything.

Some of these do seem to be aimed at taking screenshots though rather than playing. The other thing is that while TES games are wonderfully mod-able, they also tend to be unstable to begin with and many overhaul mods make that worse. Of course,it was a while ago when I since I tried ENB so maybe the stability has improved.
