Joystick problems

I humbly request the board's technical advice.

I noticed that my roll rate is less when making a right roll. I thought this was due to forces counteracting engine torque. Then while watching in chase view I noticed that the rudder swing is less in the right direction also.

Went into the input controls and sure enough my stick input seems buffered ( less output per unit input) for right input as compared to left input. Then I played with the "equalizer" (whatever it's called) to no effect.

Loaded the latest drivers... no change.

Any Ideas? Does this sound like a hardware problem?

i've got a Logitech Wingman Force 3D

when I've had problems like this in the past I've found that doing a full recallibration of the stick can sort it out

to be honest though it's a POS - but my computer nearly died when I tried it with a Cyborg (just didn't take well to the drivers - it caused merry chaos with my mouse, making it open multiples of anything the mouse arrow passed over) so I'm kind of stuck with Logitech now :(

I'm gonna start looking as to how to re-calibrate. I've never seen any options as to how to do that. If You have any tips on where to go I'd appreciate it. thanks

1. just a thought.. are you uptodate with the correct joystick drivers..?

2. Control Panel > Gaming Options > Controllers > Remove any that are there that shouldnt be > Select your joystick > Properties > Calibrate

3. In game, you can also set the response of the game from your joystick input for pitch, roll and yaw

Launch FP/PF > Hardware Setup > Input

The Red square shows the joystick output , the green square shows how this is being used in the game.

You can alter the sensitivity across the spectrum of your joystick movement... and adjust the "dead zone" (the area of central joystick movement that will have no effect)

If you find that the joystick movements are too sharp for you in the lower end of the spectrum for aiminbg, final adjustments, too much snap rolling into spins etc etc... then you might like to try the figures recommended in a read me from an earlier version :

6. Recommendations

1. For those who experience difficulties controlling aircraft with the default joystick profile (axis sensitivity curves in the Input menu), we provide sensitivity curves that we found more suitable for most of the modern input devices.
To set up the curves, go to the Input menu under the Hardware Setup in the Main Menu, and adjust the values according the following chart:

Pitch:
0 5 10 17 25 33 43 54 71 100
Roll:
0 3 7 15 25 35 50 66 84 100
Yaw:
0 8 19 29 39 51 62 75 86 100

Thanks for the instruction guide. I did what you said and initially I had much better aileron and rudder control. although the stick's sweep of motion can't make the little red or green (which ever) go all the way to the right. After playing a couple quick missions though the stick reverted to its former condition. I'll play with it some more. I think it may be time for a new one.

think this is the same problem that DAk et al had with that stick.... they had to keep reloading the game to recalibrate.. pain in the ass I fear...

Stil a good thing to do now and again though... i check mine when I can be bothered..

Saitek Cyborg 3D PLatnum here

I used to have that problem, basically its because the stick has trouble finding its centering position / calibration, this was the signal that my Saitek Cyborg was on its way out - is it a FFB stick by any chance ?

A few months ago while brousing the isles of Best Buy (a US electronics store) I checked out Saitek's latest models and found that the adjustability didn't make it the great hand-fitting stick that I heared it to be. I was disapointed. Any thoughts?

im on my second cyborg.....fits my hand perfectly...

If I buy another.. it will be a stop gap before moving on to the 2 handed jobbies that are out there....

.. but they dont last forever.. it's one of those things.. A joystick is for CHristmas.. not for life :)

prefer the ergonomic of the Logitech - fits the hand nicely and the hat switch is less fiddly than the Saitek I tried. I also prefer the throttle position on the Logitech. But the Saitek made for much much more accurate flying and shooting.

Agreed as to the ergonomics. Another advantage of the Logitech is that all the buttons on the joystick base are located on the left side. You can fly with the right and operate other functions with your left. Of course I suppose this isn't so good if your left-handed.

I've owned the joystick for about 11 months. There was a 1-Year warranty.....Just got off the phone with Logitech support....They're sending me a new one today
