    Sniper Elite V2

    Lo soldiers.

OK, it was a total results wasn't it? Steam giving away Sniper Elite V2 for free last week

I've now played several hours and it is WORTHY

It's got hints of sneak-em-up but you CAN play a little Gung Ho too if you want.

I'm still aquiring the art of tricking soldier to come to me by throwing the odd rock and then taking them out with the silenced pistol when they're out of vision of the bad buys teams.

But I'm rubbish with trip wires!

But the highlight HAS to be the gruesome bullet cams

they VARY.. sometimes its blood and ripped clothing .. but sometimes.. it'a a FULL SKELETAL X-RAY SHOT and the downward shots I've taken have done some amazing but bloody/bony damage.

I have to admit.. it's very VERY good

and for free.. frankly it's blummin amazing

Just discovered that when using binoc's, if you click each enemy when they have a grey arrow over their head they are "highlit" and you can see them moving around the screen so you know where they are.. so long as you stay withini a certain range.

Helps ... but there are always others you've NOT highlit and they really then take you buy surprise.. excellent fun

    Re: Sniper Elite V2

Played this back when it came out, mainly as a friend of mine was part of the Dev team.

It is a very good little game.
However, Reb are still a comparatively small studio and there are some errors that even my friend disliked. The biggest one is the way the weapon moves out of sync with the guy's breathing. If ever you've shot a rifle before, you'll notice it.
The Multiplayer element is naff. All the good dymanics of the game crapped on by spawn campers. You really need an efficient team together on Vent or something to do well with that.

But as a fun playthrough it's pretty darn good. I'm definitely getting SE3 when I can!

Consider checking out Aliens Vs Predator, if you haven't already. Another Reb title that I really enjoyed.

    Re: Sniper Elite V2

finished the single player, tried the silenced sneaky sneaky approach most of the time, ended up running 'n gunning most of it.

even managed to get the 'shoot someone in eye' achievement, by shooting that general bloke in the artillery tower, in the back of the head and the bullet exited through his eye. slow motion, xray cam and all

found out, that if you lay all the traps too close together, trip wires, land mines, dynamite, then you only need to set one off and it daisy chains down the entire area. so only one enemy dies and you get mobbed by the rest.

if you cant seem to get a good shot on some people hiding behind walls or round the corner, or want to see if there are any more people hiding, then just shoot one person in the leg to incapacitate them and everyone else comes running to 'save' their friend.
if more than one person arrives, you can then get double/triple kills on their saviours.
sniping the ground also works, so they go and investigate what the bullet hit and why there was a ping noise. you obviously need to be very far away, or they'll come and investigate what made the bang noise instead (i.e. shoot you instead of wandering around aimlessly looking for the noisy bullet)

last point. sniping moving head shots are very hard.

    Re: Sniper Elite V2

It is a very good game, but it is very easy to complete, even on Sniper Elite difficulty I used to play Sniper Elite (the first one, original, PS2, PC) and that was a heck of a lot harder than this ever was.

More realistic though. The main selling point is the bullet cam though I am glad they kept the whole "Shooting a hand grenade" thing - that is cool to watch

    Re: Sniper Elite V2

I've pulled a lot of guards into double traps... creep forward.. lay land mine.. pull back... lay trip wire... then temp first lot into land mine.. maybe get "two for the price of one" then fall right back and let the trip wire do some too.

I'm regularly dropping my thompson now and swapping to either MP40 or PH accroding to which soldiersd are about and checking EVERY body for extra ammo/lamndmines etc

only thing I cant work out is dynamite.. what's it for?

Do I have to shoot it on the ground?

    Re: Sniper Elite V2

I freaking love this game. Just to answer; as you go through a location, note where enemy vehicles(full of men) pull up, next time, lay mine where you think they'll tread, press F on dynamite(it connects to top of mine), and blow up truck and men. You can place it similarily, and shoot it from a distance, when truck arrives. The game involves alot of planning and patience; finding locations for great long distance shots, where to lay trips(usually behind as you move through buildings, to cover your ass!), and stealth!. The Russian snipers are a real challenge!

Dynamite is primarily used to take vehicles out, attach it then shoot it, can also do the same thing if you know where a group of enemies are coming in from, lay the dynamite and shoot it when they are all near.

I'm on the infiltrate the church mission, shooting people whilst the bells are ringing, the tank is bloody hard until you clear the area and shoot the petrol cap to finally destroy it.

    I'd NEVER do that...

I try really hard to not replay levels and use my knowledge (cos frankly dead men don't talk.)

So placing mines or dynamite where someone WILL be cos they got you last time from there is a No No for me

    I know.. I'm odd

    Re: Sniper Elite V2

I got into a real rut; I'd found my best way through through the whole game, which snipers to take out first, where to expect troops, until I could get through without being shot(virtually!!). But now I've started experimenting, using the repetoire of weapons more, different tactics. I get killed more, but it's exciting! Check out the amazing sound effects; rifle fire, tiger tank, etc

it's a good game for experimenting isn't it?

Mark of the Ninja helped me with this... I've learned to LURE gaurds into traps.. sometimes two rows of mines or trip wires.. so I can pull back... and back further.

I LOVE the sound meter in the top right of the scrreen.... so you know WHEN to take the shot and not be heard.. and the save positons are JUST achievable on some levels....

What I most like but also struggle with.. is the bullet cams actually SHOW me where other soldiers are hiding.. which is AWESOME.. and wrong.

SO I turned them off for a lot of the game....

In terms of scoring, I like the way points are awarded for distance and quality of shot...and in some case I took a CHEST shot knowing the block would STAGGER and then I got a clear HEAD SHOT for the points.
