Some more books :) help please DAK

There is a bookfair in my local town for the rest of the week, some old guy is selling off his collection of wartime books.

Is there much of a market for these, are they a good inverstment?

Things like the histories of regiments, memoirs of bomber command staff etc.

All in lovely condition with dust jackets etc.

Ok get down there and ask him if you can copy the isbn numbers from the front of books and put a small note next to them of price. I always tell them im looking for a friend but dont want to part with the cash till i know he wants them. I so often do searchs for people that its not a lie

Then come home and search on amazon by isbn, this will give you a list of how many are about and the price.

Then set up a free sellers account, they take all payments for you and expect you to post within 2 days. Example .........................

Title of book: Six Months to Oblivion: Defeat of the Luftwaffe Fighter Force Over the Western Front, 1944/ 45
    ASIN: 0711006105
    Condition: Used - Very Good
Condition comments: Dust Jacket and Book both in very good condition. Excellent read the focal point been Operation Baseplate on 1st Jan 1945
Accepted payment methods: Amazon Payments only
    Your price: £12.00
    Quantity: 1
Postage charge to buyer on your behalf (if sold):
Learn more about the Postage charge £2.75 for delivery within the UK*
    Amazon.co.uk Marketplace fees (if sold):
Learn more about Seller Fees (£2.98) for delivery within the UK*
    VAT on Amazon.co.uk Marketplace fees:
Learn more about VAT on Seller Fees (£0.44) for delivery within the UK*
Total you will receive (if sold): £11.33 for delivery within the UK*
(Read Amazon.co.uk's Fees & Pricing guidelines and Postage Credits & Delivery policy)

    * - Actual amounts may differ, depending on the final delivery address.

    So I charge £12.00 plus £2.75 postage,
Amazon take thier cut then dont forget a jiffy bag is 25p to £1.00 and postage is usually £1.25 for paperbacks and light hardbacks going upto as much as £4.00 for a big heavey job.

So Before paying for that book Im down to £9.75 to £9.25 How much you want to make is upto you, in most cases Im cheapest cause I shop hard for decent books in good nick from places that dont know the value, general 2nd hand book shops, house clearance people, charity shops etc. My best advice is if you can make £2.00 and are interested in the book buy it, but beware they can take a while to shift. My exception is one I see on a wish list on amazon which will show as wanted when you look for book. And then load it by at least £5.00 (unless its me )

    My best result?

A 1st edition copy of John Wainwrights Tail End Charlie paid £1.75 sold £20.00 a clear £15 after fees and postage. Its worth nowt until somebody wants it

Also if he is a specailist you can still make the odd decent find. Good publishers are

Marshall and Putnan, signed 1st edition depend on the author, but any photos signed by the combatents are a great find. Adolf Galland signed in a £5.00 copy of a Luftwaffe book unknown to the person that sold it. A nice tickle for the buyer. So check all photos and everypage in book.

The better titles are the ones that were good but for some reason never caught on in large numbers. So books by Galland , Johnson and in the Aviation are cheap as chips, whilst one offs such as tail end charlie are sort after by collectors. I see 5 or so wing leaders a year but that was the only tail end charlie Ive ever seen in years of looking.

Most of all have fun. Any questions fire away

Reach for the sky has its jacket, a little bashed around the edges of the spine but otherwise in perfect condition.

Can't find ISBN numbers anywhere on them.

    And thanks
