I am the same Mama Sumae, I haven't played a game on release for the last 8 years, not even ones I pre-ordered. The only game I ever pre-ordered, and ever will, was Fallout: New Vegas. The game was so buggy on release that I didn't install it until a year after it was released when it became an acceptable gaming experience. I bought Valve's Orange Box a month after it was released and even then I only played HL2; I totally ignored Team Fortress 2 until the next year (~8 months after release) when I started playing it and continued playing it for 3+ hours a day for 4+ years.
Gaming has such a wealth of options available for you to choose from that there is no need to play games as they are released. In fact I think it is worse to be playing games as they are released: by paying a premium for games at release you encourage games being released before they are finished, I don't know any game not to receive patches within weeks of being released, and you end up having to buy DLC later; you might as well wait for the DLC to be included in a package deal where you get the entire games content all at once, for a reasonable price and without unnecessary bugs due to premature release. The benefits far outweigh the negatives; the only negative I can think of is not playing the game at the same time as millions of others, but then they were happy to pay more for a buggy product that doesn't have a complete package of content so I am not sure playing at the same time as them is of any benefit because they clearly don't care as much about the game experience they receive as I do; they seem to care more about discussing the game with others and playing together than whether or not the game experience is buggy, so I prefer to share my experiences with other people willing to wait for less buggy gaming, gamers like yourself.
@Mama Sumae: @Noxvayl:
I hear what you are saying, I only recently, as in within the last 2 years, completed Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Episode 1 and Half Life 2: Episode 2. All great games, all played superbly on my hideously overpowered PC for the games I was playing and all were great fun. I played Mirror's Edge about 3 years after release, completed Portal just before Portal 2 was released, Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Crysis 2 just as Crysis 3 became available on pre-order and the Alan Wake games were around 12 months after they were released. I don't feel like I missed out on anything from these and they were all amazing games to play. The game I most recently completed was Shadow Warrior, and at the moment I am splitting my gaming time between the campaign on BF4, Borderlands 2, Hitman Absolution and now I need to go back to Dead Space (I'm on chapter 12 in the first game and completed chapter 1 in the second!) so I can play the trilogy in roughly the right order.
There are some games that I got from new, either because I was able to get good deals on pre-ordering titles, had vouchers that would expire if I didn't use them or got them free with new hardware, but I have many titles that I got from new that I haven't really played, like Dishonored, Thief, Batman Arkham Origins, Splnter Cell Black List and Himtan Absolution. So buying new for me is definitely not the norm.
Would you like some Arkham Origins DLC Keyboard Demon? I got some in the Humble WB Bundle that I can't use, not yet anyway.
If you will use it then take it.
Can't say that isn't true, but it could be worse and you could get an arrow in the knee :P
That said if you have a regular group of online mates there's nothing like picking up a few copies of a game on sales and spreading it among them, its awesome fun to play it together (even if you play something else with them regularly like battlefield or Arma) and it costs a fraction of a new release. :)
I haven't started playing Arkham Origins, so getting DLC before I start would mean I am more likely to see it, so if you don't mind giving it, I would be very happy to receive it.
Rather than start a new thread, here are the unused keys I have left over from Humble Bundle deals:
Deep Silver Bundle - Risen 2: Dark Waters, Sacred 2: Gold Edition, Saints Row 2, and Saints Row: The Third (I don't know if I have or haven't activated this, but I think it is still unused).
Eye Candy Bundle - Velocity Ultra, Cosmic DJ (Early Access game) and Q.U.B.E.
Out of the Park Baseball 14
Square Enix Christmas Box codes - I don't know if I gave any of these away already, but I do know I either had or didn't want games in the pack:
Hitman Blood Money, Tomb Raider, and Just Cause 2
Edit
Cook, Serve, Delicious! and Dungeon Siege III have been taken, I didn't even know it was Dungeon Siege III until Noxvayl told me, lol.
Give me that Dungeon Siege key please, played the game as a kid and have not got it on my Steam library so would love to see that in there.
Batman DLC in your PM inbox :)
I thought you meant the original Dungeon Siege, not the third one. Thanks very much :)
Although I now have more games in my backlog, this was meant to be an exercise in getting rid of games I didn't want in my backlog...
hey KeyboardDemon - I've just found out (i.e. bothered checking) that just cause 2 has a multiplayer mod. so as my sister is now wanting the copy from amd raptr for herself - I need to de-annoy her because shes still grumpy at me for that LOTRO bundle :p then I need another copy.
and as we've found out, everyone on here already has the game. can I have it pleases
unless someone else wants it more, then i'll have to deal with an annoyed grumpy sister. which i'm sure you all will think is hilarious :(
ta muchly.
Hi, I don't suppose Just Cause 2 has gone, been wanting to get for ages
Keyboard, I dont suppose you would still have the Saints Rows? If possible
lol. Annoy her some more and make her watch you play some Just Cause 2 before you give her the key I sent by PM just now.
I think the common rules on these giveaway threads are people that make regular contributions take order of precedence over newer members and also first come first serve, so unfortunately stevie lee was there first with his request and as a regular contributor he also has that working in his favour.
I tried to send you the Saints Row codes but you haven't unlocked your Inbox yet so I can't PM you, you need to increase your post count in order to get this check out this post to see what you need to do and some of the other benefits.
Thank you, Got PM working now
