Flightstick for Elite Dangerous
I'm considering jumping in early to Elite Dangerous and quite fancy giving it a go with a flightstick. Never used one before so am contemplating maybe just a Speedlink Black Widow - cos it is cheap and the Amazon reviews seem generally favourable. I know there are flashy sticks out thee like the X52 but not sure it is really worth it for one game - I'm not a flight sim person at all. Or anything I'm overlooking?
Re: Flightstick for Elite Dangerous
It's what I'm using, and while it's obviously not as awesome as the more expensive kit it does the job. That said... Try it with an xbox360 controller before splashing the cash if you have one.
Re: Flightstick for Elite Dangerous
It's an extreme budget stick, but apart from some incompatibility issues I don't see any major issues. If you're buying it for one game though wait for someone else to verify it works OK.

I've got an xbox360 controller, but it sits in the cupboard because I hate it.
Just to confirm - you played elite Dangerous with the Black Widow. Any issues?
Re: Flightstick for Elite Dangerous
Only that I suck at piloting a ship... There's a preset in game for it that works fine (though I tweaked it a little)
Edit: there are a number of threads at the forums around controllers. Don't expect an x55 experience, but do check http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthr...ht=Black+widow http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthr...ht=Black+widow and http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthr...ht=Black+widow

Re: Flightstick for Elite Dangerous
I got myself a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro when I was checking out the single player training missions but didn't manage to get it set up properly. This it's the one I bought: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Ext...extreme+3D+Pro
Looking at the options I think the Speedlink Black Window looks like it would be the better choice and I'm thinking of putting my Logitech on to eBay now.

Just deciding whether to pay the £15 impatience tax or hold out for the final game. Think I know what the answer will be once the stick arrives.
Re: Flightstick for Elite Dangerous
For anyone else in a similar boat - Start with a fairly cheap one.
I got a Saitek Cyborg FLY 5, because it's quite low priced, but still has enough extra buttons and gubbins to let me decide if a HOTAS or similar is worth getting.
I can also play the games well enough with this kit, to decide if the game (and other similar ones like Star Citizen) is playable enough to justify dropping a load of cash for a nice fancy HOTAS.
Certainly IMO the X55 Rhino is about the best bang for buck HOTAS at the minute.
Anything less is too much for cheap, problematic or limited kit. Anything more is wasted if you're not an über flight sim enthusiast and usually requires even more extra things like pedals anyway.
Re: Flightstick for Elite Dangerous
I have just found this roundup of flight sticks on PC Gamer, sorry I haven't put this in as a normal link using my smartphone: http://m.pcgamer.com/2014/08/05/flight-stick-roundup/
I've just read through this roundup and it looks like the best value stick is the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X. I may well find one of these winging its way in my direction soon. lol
Re: Flightstick for Elite Dangerous
Similar boat myself, have been reading a lo about the X52 Pro and X55 but I don't like the issues people are getting for a reasonably expensive peripheral. Personally I love the look of the X52 as it's more futuristic but the X55 is arguably 'better'/
