I'm really wondering if I'll be able to get away with combat in my luke warm Anaconda. I've only got enough cash for a couple of rebuys as well, this does not bode well haha!

Yeah it sounds like it's brutal at the moment. Recommendation is to spend a lot on outfitting now, then grind for engineer mods to mitigate lost functionality (eg jump range) due to heavier outfitting. Both of which are all but impossible for new/vanilla players so I'm definitely staying away until something changes.
The new permit locked nebula and so on make it sound like there is some interesting plot stuff coming down the line for those at the end game though, so experienced players are going to enjoy this update
Yuk, I just want to fire up the PC and start with the pew pewing
Hopefully someone will do a guide for easy kitting out.
These things more worry me if I am trading. If someone jumps me in the FAS then that is "only" a 4.5M rebuy, and I am in an attack fighter so have some chance and handling things. But I worry about being interdicted in the trading anaconda if a tank like a combat FAS can be taken down so very fast.
Will have a bit of a play over the weekend, but I have lots of other games I haven't finished/played yet (including I am only a few missions into Doom and that is just superb).
Grr, still can't play it. It's downloaded all the files and even runs if I open the .exe directly, but it won't let me play.
Well the graphics have improved AND it runs smoother, so credit due for the optimisations at least. Even less need to upgrade GPU now
And I think I'll stay out of the bubble until the hubub dies down. In the meantime, first sight
Finally got it. Had a go at combat, NPCs are defiantly improved but I'm still able to hold my own in my 'el cheapo' Conda. Love the fact that smaller fighters are nigh on impossible to get in my sights and I'm having to rely on a pair of small pulse turrets to take them down. Huge multi cannon is hilarious fun, chews hulls to bits and looks great!
The graphics optimisations haven't really changed much for me, I've not seen an that big an improvement other than the fog and reflections, and the pop in of the station interiors when lining up to the mail box is a little less obvious now. Haven't seen much in the way of FPS improvements.
Has anyone come across one of the bugged NPC weapons? There's ships flying about with plasma weapons that fire as quick as multi cannons, or railguns that fire a stream of projectiles that quickly it looks like a beam laser!

You do NOT want to be on the pointy end of that!
This happens if you are:

No, I'm staying well clear of the bubble until things are tweaked. I was close to considering a Horizon's purchase but this has put me off for now, will wait and see if it's reduced at Christmas I guess!
Darned thresholds.. cptwhite_uk very kindly passed on a discount voucher that was due to expire, so seeing as that counts as 'reduced' I had to buy Horizons
Not coming back to the bubble any time soon though so they've got a chance to iron out the bugs (they've already hotfixed to remove engineer mods from NPCs, however the rate of fire bug might not be related to that). Also last thing I needed was more demands on my credits! No, best fly off into deep space and forget such things like engineers and SRVs exist for a moment..
Hilarious(*) explanation from the programmer who caused the recent railgun shotgun bug:

*YMMV depending on geekiness levels
Hah, least they found what was causing it. I'm just glad I never came across one!
Another patch out today including further AI tweaks:

Yeah, looking forward to trying it out if I get some time later. I'm suffering with another bug at the moment though... Taking bulk cargo missions, then getting redirected half way through - only I'm in an Anaconda, and being sent to outposts.
Probably wise mate, that said it's not a complete cluster bumble. I love the traffic control around the stations and the USS mechanic feels a lot better.
