I think the idea really is if you just jump on and sit in the Elite channel, then people see you are playing and jump in for a chat. Seems more people are using it at the moment which is good to see, even if Im not finding much time at the moment!

I'd like to smuggle but there is no incentive ie reward.

I made quite a lot of fast credits buying stuff from a space station and selling it to nearby "looking for luxuries" ships before I twigged it was racking up as smuggled goods rather than traded

I've been curious about how that works. What kind of goods do they want and how do you make a transaction?

You can cargo scan them to find out what they carry, but so far there has only been one item: Performed Enhancers. (May have changed in 1.06, but I doubt it).

You fly near to one of the Type-9 transports and they'll automatically remove the canisters and transfer the cash to you. I did find one that was 10Mm from a cheap station and did a few runs befoer going back to normal trading. The advatages with normal trading is that it increases you trade rank (as pointed out above, this is counted as Smuggling instead) and also let's me do some Bulletin Board missions to increase my ranks. So far, I'm only one rank with the Fed and Empire; I need to work on the Empire to get the Clipper I think.

Performance Enhancers was certainly what I was selling.

As shown in the video above, it is advisable to not occidentally ram into a class 9 when dropping out of FSD as well. Mind you, they automatically purchased 100T of goods at a decent markup just before I exploded so with a ~60K buyback on the ship I was still slightly up on the deal if rather embarrassed

Biggest difficulty might be picking somewhere everyone is close to although I would suggest Lave or Sol as good(ish) places to meet. What do people think?

Always a possibility though I'm trying to hang around Empire space at the moment since that's where the story is about to kick off... Sol's not got much going for it to be honest, not a lot of PVE fighting there. Lave's a bit of a hotbed of PVP at the moment, little risky especially with the French invasion.

I like Marici as a system - Federation run but on the Empire borders, got great hunting grounds and a station that's really close to the action for quick repairs etc.

How far are peeps from there?

Is that because you actually get 96.25% insurance for being a Beta player? I suspect it might be it.

Sol's not got much going for it to be honest, not a lot of PVE fighting there.

I got a hot tip on a trade route, so I'm about 90LY away from Sol at the moment, though it's a relatively easy trip back.
However, I have to say that I made about 3.5mil Cr from Bounty-Hunting just one system away from Sol, over in Luhman 16 - Rewards went as high as 75,000+ and the PVE pickings were pretty good. Everything from Cobras to Adders, Asps, Pythons, Dropships, Clippers and Condas. Got a couple of conflict zones nearby (Wolf 359, I think it was) and some pretty good trades. Missions bumped me up several Fed ranks quite quickly, too.
