It sounds like there's still some issues with the influence system, but could be interesting.

There was a story on GalNet in the last couple of days about a travelling station (a story I had read when I had Frontier Elite II). That could be interesting, especially if it needed players to go out and mine for fuel or find supplies at each stop. There are also community events, like the BucketBall Run (sp?) race and I read last week about people having a Sidewinder destruction derby inside a station!

I actually liked Euro Truck Simulator; and in fact it was Yahtzee's review stating that fact that got me to get the game. And I think it was TotalBiscuit who mentioned that leaving the boring bits in (like having to land each time) that sort of made it endearing. But of course, it's not something you will play for long lengths of time.
The travelling station was in the newsletter and is more of the type of thing that's needed, just general flavour would be a start. For instance you can see that being a use for the orca /clipper that makes them a bit more useful. Pick up rich tourists from core systems and take them to see the nebulae /travelling station etc.

I don't necessarily want to be able to build stations, but someone should be. Pathfinder missions would be another great one - maybe to play with wings.- go out and find a new colony target (sol like systems) then support the mission by defending it from pirates/competing factions, shipping raw metals and slaves to it etc. Just more variety general.

The fact that it could be so much more is annoying - I really hope it gets from a pretty great game I'm going to play out in a month or so to something genuinely amazing but I'm really scared I'll grow to hate it by then and miss out.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

ISTR in the original Elite the docking computer could skip all the animation and just dock you? Certainly it was very fast and got you out of the drudge of docking every time.

From what I have heard I haven't bothered with auto docking, but it should be there and it should work, and it should be faster than I would dare to come screaming onto my pad.

Heck, they could make the docking computer run from a LUA or Python script with an API for all the relevant inputs and let people write their own. Just need way-point locations if there is an airlock, pad location, some access to scanner data for collision avoidance and thruster control.

Yes, but the game didn't have to run in real time as it was single player. Multiplayer means you can't skip time.

The docking computer is probably as fast as I can dock on average. For every time I hit it perfectly there's another time I end up either overshooting or missing the pad entirely. I'm pretty hot in the viper especially (love those strafe thrusters). The main complaint is that it sits in the queue. Why people are expecting the computer to scoot your asp down the side of a type 9 I'm not quite sure.

Also, in the original Elite - Docking actually *was* difficult!!

I can enter the letterbox at full burn in an Eagle or Viper, drop landing gear & slow to blue-zone manoeuvreing speed and touch down on any pad (including the ones just inside the door) without any difficulty.

By contrast, if you enter at full burn in a Type 6, it is physically impossible to stop before you bounce off the back wall of the station, ha ha!!!

Whilst true, it can still get on with it and I'm sure a docking computer should be able to reliably go a *lot* faster than I dare.

Nah, wasn't hard just took time.

Not just me testing the shields of a type 6 on the back of a station then

1.1 apparently drops tomorrow. The 1000ly journey planner should be boss, and community goals have potential. Also pleased to see the rewards for combat bonds have ben increased.

It might be able to go faster, but it will also screw up and try to slam you into anything already inside the docking hatch.

This hatch is big enough to get 3 Anacondas comfortably through, though, so anything smaller shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah I did much the same. ISTR in my case something distracted me. Next thing I know I realise I am about to enter a space station that I haven't asked permission to dock at. Full reverse throttle, "docking request granted", BANG! Bit of a repair bill but could have gone worse

I did lose a T6, but I dashed out of the room for a minute whilst fuel scooping, so never did see what happened to me. I learnt something that day at least.

I see it isn't just my wife that thinks the ship says "friendship Drive Charging"!

It's quite strange how for some reason the video won't play using Chrome but played fine using IE. I downloaded the 1.1 Beta but never go round to playing it, downloading 1.1 actual now. Not sure when I'll get the chance to play it though. lol

Anyone else shuffling metals in Yembo? Finding it quite a useful way to get used to my new X55.

BTW, if you were thinking about getting a HOTAS but don't know if its worth it, do it, its awesome.
