    Re: Elite : Dangerous

I was in a cobra, all A but life support with 2 c2 fixed beams and 2 c1 gimballed pulses. But it was pap for bounty hunting so I'm back in my viper (A everything but fsd & life support which are d) 1 c2 and 1 c1 beam and 1 of each gimballed multi. A3 shield cell bank, chaff and kws (bottom spec one). Its about the most dps I can squeeze in without having to fiddle with switching stuff on and off (just need to stow the guns to hit scb). For res /nav/conflict zones I often swap the lot for pulse lasers. You can usually rely on at least one Ai to make up the difference and you can sit there as long as you like.

I can't get on with turrets at all. I can see their use on an anaconda, but beyond how badass they look firing on the forward mounts out the windscreen I don't like them on the smaller ships. You can't keep them firing long enough to make up for the damage you lose imo. Especially considering there should only really be eagles that can consistently evade you and they're pretty weak

    IMO - Both!

It will obviously take you longer to get up enough cash for the bigger ships and stuff, but the whole point of Elite is that it is not a race to some kind of finish. You get there in your own time.

The only possible difficulty you may encounter is when updates to the game come along, which will not be especially frequent (currently perhaps one a month), but may take time to both download/install and to explore the features of.
For example, we will eventually be getting the ability to leave the cockpit and walk around planetside/in the station, so there will be a fair bit of time just exporing that if you're only playing 60 minutes weekly... but again, you will be able to do it at your own pace.

Was running 3 pips on weapons (2 sys, 1 engines) and found I could fire the turreted beam all day. In fact on the default fire at will setting it was ceaselessly trying to get aggro with everything

Meh, give me the vulture any day of the week. It's just mean looking. Also, I'm sure I'd get used to it like you do the cobra but the Offset driving position would annoy me too.
I jumped in an asp last night to get grinding. Need 2 c3 beams

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Had a go in a Fed Dropship last night... Won't be buying one of them for any reason, except the garage, I think...

Vulture too - even with just C2 weapons, that just seemed FAR too easy to take things down. I know I'm not that good a pilot, but I was dropping Asps and Clippers and Pythons and Dropships as easily as if I were blatting Sideys in my own Asp.
    It's certainly pretty, though!

Not found any of the other ships yet, although I was only messing around quickly before bed.

Anyone been to Frigaha and tested these Capital Ships yet?

It has two LARGE weapons and only slightly less manoeuvrability than the Eagle.
As it currently sits, even a below-average pilot like me can pretty much beat the pants off everything up to and including a Python, Fed Dropship, Clipper or an Orca with one of these things and not have to worry about taking any hull damage.

20mil for that is easily bargain of the millenium!

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

What's the cargo space in it like tho? If its half decent might swap down from the Python for it.

Couldn't play last night as it took 3 hours to download the update, their servers must have been taking a hammering as the d/l speed was only 0.5 MB/s.

Hoping the wings will get me back into playing it regularly.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Had a go last night doing my usual RES point farming. With the NPC wings in force it's 'interesting'. I had 5x wings of 3 security ships (each). This made for a very busy time to say the least, anything Wanted wasn't surviving more than about 30 seconds after jumping in. Great for me though, I just sat in the middle, looked for the tell tale pew pew streaks of light, boost over, rip a quick bit of laser over the hull of the bad guy, steal the bounty, rinse and repeat. Made a couple of hundred K relatively quickly - I might get my plasma cannon'd Viper yet!

Need some of you guys online and not in solo! I want to try winging up, even if only as an escort
