I know it's awesome, pretty sure Battlefield 2's install footprint was bigger than that.
Ok, so its on offer on Steam at the moment and I am tempted but wondered what people thought, mainly looking for long time players, what are your thoughts, is it a game worth getting or does it run out of steam after a while.
Thanks
Jon
I haven't put loads of time into this game. About 9-10 hours so far over a few sessions. I honestly found it boring as hell and that's why I haven't played any more. There's nothing interesting to look at when you're flying around and it just feels kinda 2D a lot of time. You go to one station, look at a text based menu, then fly to another station and do the same thing again. It just doesn't feel like there's much there. Nothing even slightly interesting happened in the whole time I played. I feel gutted paying full price for it, but I was desperate to have something to fill the void until Star Citizen is further in development.
I'm not saying there's nothing good there. I've played games before that left me feeling like this, only to return to them at a later date and have them turn into some of my favourite games when I actually realised the beauty in them. So, I guess this game might be one of those. But to answer your question, based on my experience, the honeymoon period lasts about 2 hours max, then it's just boring journeys and text menus after that.
Maybe someone can show how cool this game can be..?

Yeah that was my main concern, the novelty wearing off pretty soon. I enjoyed X3 immensely especially as my stations grew.
Thanks for the honest and frank review.
Jon
If you enjoy sci-fi and space exploration you will enjoy it. The game is nicely scored and the visuals are quite good. The combats is also excellent in this game and I really haven't got bored of it tbh. If you play with people you know you will enjoy it loads but I think many people in this forum have moved on to gta and other games.
I prefer more base building etc to be honest. The visuals do look good yes, music I can take or leave. I am more a solo player, while I know the game is multiplayer based is it essentially you do things together or can you get through as a single player as it were?
Jon
You can play the whole game in solo if you'd like but it is always online I think.
Ah right. I just remembered I have a copy of Star Citizen so downloading that currently and will give that a go while contemplating where to get Elite or maybe go back and give X3 another go.
Jon
X3 is a bit better imo. Though I do like having other players in the world. There's just something really cool about thatI also play solo pretty much all the time with every game, so I understand where you're coming from. I still like multiplayer worlds though. If you want something new to try without spending much money, try one of these games: http://www.starwraith.com/
I have Evochron Mercenary which is the multiplayer sandbox one, the other game is basically the same, but more focused on singleplayer with a story, which might not even have any multiplayer actually, I can't remember..
You have two modes:
Open - You will encounter NPCs and other players, who will help, hinder, pass pleasantries or just ignore you.
Solo - You will not encounter other players.
Both modes require an online connection, because the game downloads up-to-date information on the ever-changing, dynamic socio-economic environment, weapon availability and stocks of commodities, etc.
However, Solo only does it periodically to refresh at the client end, whereas Open very frequently updates with details of other nearby players too.
I play mostly in Solo, as I'm usually far away from most other players that I don't encounter them anyway and it keeps my connection fast.
In the next few weeks player factions will be allowed in elite. Im going to create one for hexus(will most likely be called something mgs themed though) I will post a link for those interested when every things up.
I've not bothered with elite since march. I was under the impression they are developing CQC for the xbone. If there are to be player factions there is still not much they can do to influence the galaxy.
Not played Elite since GTA came out and actually miss it. Might fire it back up again soon, if I can tear myself away from Fallout New Vegas.
Still playing it when I can![]()
