Yes you need to request docking (Left comms panel > Contacts > Highlight station > Request Docking) ...only do this when you're less than 7.5Km away, otherwise you'll be denied.

This was a result of me trying to do a 10k Cr mission.... Recover 1 Can of Salvage.
My first attempt was NPC (I think) but he got blew to smithereens by another wing that just popped in after I did. Thankfully as I made a hasty escape. I was managing my power/shield in the process lol. Was a nail biter as I thought I wasn't going to supercruise in time.
I get out...
2nd attempt...
One guy is still there when I come back... I evade, keep spinning and vbanking left and right randomly. Getting into Supercruise and leave. Wait a few mins and go back. Collected...

Well for me it was an achievement lol
I had died on several occasions and not being able to get away. But now I had done it twice and managed to complete a mission. Need to keep saving up.
How hard is it to mine a ton of materials? As I see some contracts that pay nearly 80k for a ton of "X of Materials"
I haven't played for around 6 months, but mining was very slow. For those contracts you are better off trading and going somewhere where they are sold cheaper. However, be warned you can't pay it off in chunks, so only pick ones that your cargo hold can handle.
Will try and get on tonight Macman, probably after 9PM - CMDR Matt White
Go straight for the station, no messing about after dropping out of supercruise. Max pips to engines and keep boosting. You run the risk of being scanned if you try to line up too much or take your time. As you get closer to the station consider silent running - but tbh if you go straight for it you'll more than likely get in without issue. Chaff can sometimes stop a scan from completing (not sure this is intended behaviour, but hey what the hell!) so take some along.
