It's also handy for when lining up the huge PA - more often than not you can be lining up the lead required whilst still keeping the pressure on with the gimbals. As much as you lose a bit of power, you spend more time shooting (unless they pop chaff and you have to drop the lock).

Ooh not tried one of those yet. Am back in the Vulture, the still best I have for combat, trying to make some money back after buying the Anaconda for trading.

Just got to 3.4M credits handed in and that was enough to get me into top 15% reward band.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Clipper is an amazing ship ship to fly, really flatters the pilot given its size. It's quick, drifts when you turn (great fun!) and can dish out a lot of punishment. It's just let down by paper thin shielding if set up for armed trading. Even with the biggest shield it's still fairly weak, but at least you can carry loads of SCB's to top them up.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Yeah shields are pretty poor in the Clipper, but you're right Lowe I'm really liking it. Think I can currently afford C7 shield with two sets of Shield Cell Banks (class B6 and A4) and 2x A rated shield boosters for 40% performance boost.

Weapons outfit is 2x Gimballed Pulse Lasers (class 3 / large), and 2x Gimballed Multi-cannons (class 2 / medium)

It's not fully upgraded yet but can boost to 400

    Also fitted with:

    Frame shift drive interdictor
    Kill warrant scanner
    Heat sink launcher
    Chaff launcher
    Discovery scanner
~ 32 cargo capacity (in case I come across anything worth salvaging)

    Combat focussed but multi-role.

You'll hit 430m/s when properly kitted out. Cost me about 30ml for my initial trader Clipper, but that soon goes up once you start A grading everything at 16ml a pop!

In other news, seen the new buggy assault video sneak peek?

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Looking forward to being able to play this when I get my build finished... currently on a 7 year old gaming laptop so haven't been able to try this yet! I noticed in the specs on their website it mentions Windows 7/8 in minimum/recommended but not Windows 10, and when I do a search the top results seem to talk about crashing/low FPS and other problems. Does anyone here play it on Win 10 and have you had any problems with it?

Really trying to get into this game - just need to put some time aside.

Do you guys use a mouse and keyboard or joystick for flying?

I was really put off when I was trying to complete my first mission but couldn't dock because I got 'permission denied' as all the bays were full.

Has any maximum docking times / a dock queuing system been implemented yet?

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

I have a HOTAS stick, I tried the training scenarios on keyboard and mouse and it was hopeless. Plugged in a gamepad which was far better, but convinced me it wasn't worth playing unless I had a proper stick to fly with.

Was an expensive game to get into

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

A stick really is the way forward. Even basic HOTAS that has a throttle on the base is better than a game pad. I use a basic Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and have no issues whatsoever.

I've only had issues waiting for docking when at outposts in Open mode. If everything is full up, you can get around it by switching from Open into Solo mode, docking (since the pads will now be free) and then switching back into Open again.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

First go at mining since it changed a while back with drones etc!

Still pretty tedious, but in a big enough ship at least quite profitable.

I bought a Dropship, kitted with collection drone controller, a big refinery and 10$T of hold space. Went out collecting Palladium for the mining community goal, and after probably a couple of hours managed 20T. Thought that was awful, but on handing it in was put in top 66% with 2M cr reward if I stay in that band so not *that* bad.

Should have bought a Clipper though I think, and not enough spare case now to just go out and buy one. I didn't have a Dropship in my fleet before, don't really want to sell it so will probably carry on with it for a bit. I could do with a second drone controller to gather the fragments faster as two limpets just isn't enough.

Time to log back in, & back out I go...

I carry 292T of cargo and, shipping Palladium, can make 600,000Cr in 12 minutes. That's 3mil per hour without blinking.

Kornelius Briedis reckons that, with the right PowerPlay choices, you could get up to 30mil an hour!!!

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

How would you recommend a new player started the game these days? I have tried a couple of times to get back into ED after my initial disappointment but really don't know how to make some decent money at the start.

I looked at transport missions, but they were painfully low on payment. I believe you need way more capital than you start with to start mining? And the starter ship going bounty hunting, I doubt it would scratch much?

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Just do a couple of simple missions, throw in a bit of trading and after a few hours you'll have enough credits to start trading in gold/etc.

Shouldn't take you long to get a hauler where you cand grind for a bit, then money just becomes a function of time.
