Well I have been back in Lugh and noticed the Crimson State Group were back in conflict and ventured into a conflict zone to try and help out, but apparently my Python which is kitted out for doing missions isn't up to the job as twice I have had my butt handed to me by Corvettes.

Now I really want a Corevette

In the meantime, looks like I need to get my FAS hauled back into Lugh. If I could find a 7A power plant for the Python so it had the power budget for shield cell banks etc for combat, I don't have the 51M that such a module costs!

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Given SCB now overheat you drastically I've switched my Python setup considerably.

I now use a Bi-weave shield, B6 rated SCB (6 recharges), lots of hull reinforcement (think my hull strength is around 1508 now, up from 446 stock), shields give 446MJ with boosters

For weapons I've switched to 3 large gimballed flak cannons (I boost to target and fire in their face for massive damage) and 2x gimballed class 2 beam lasers for wearing down shields at range. With 3 pips to shields and 3 to weapons I can fire effectively continuously with the beams.

I also have 2x A rated shield boosts, 2x heat sinks to remove radar signature and stop overheating when using SCB

Also space for an A4 fuel scoop / interdictor and scanner, makes for a very nice bounty hunting ship. Switch a heatsink for a kill warranty scanner if you prefer

This is with maxed power distributor (A7) and B7 power generator. Needs a bit of power management but is workable for unrestricted use of all the set-up.

    Here it is:

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

    Sounds like a nice setup.

I got the Python for doing missions. Got fed up of seeing missions that were not available because it involved shipping 100T+ of goods somewhere with only a medium landing pad with an Asp that just couldn't truck that much.

After a quick play, I think I will strip out the hull reinforcement and put it back to "a missions/trade ship that can look after itself when interdicted" and just go fetch the fighter. I also missed being able to turn in the Python even with A class thrusters

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

AMD claim to have fixed the FPS drop in Supercruise under Windows 10 with a hotfix. Given I only use Windows to play games (currently Elite) that re-opens the question of whether I switch away from 7. Still not sure, but at least the option seems to be there.

My friend has had the issue since release and he confirmed this sorted it last night (R9 380 / Windows 10 64 bit / Elite v1.5 in 64 bit mode)

I notice that B7 power plant is 64T in mass! I switched to an A6 as it was a tiny bit more power than a C7 but comes in at 20T which for mission running is a nice improvement in jump range when lightly loaded. I try and stay out of heavy combat though.

    Hello all,

Not sure if it's already been asked but do any of you use a PS4 controller to play, and if so what key binds do you use? (or is there a link to any you would recommend?) I have been toying around with a few settings but haven't managed to make anything satisfying yet!

Using a generic gamepad on the PC was enough to convince me I wanted to play the game, but I couldn't get anything that felt really enjoyable to play. I went for a cheapish HOTAS controller, very happy with that:

Hmm, that does look tempting... thanks for the link, I have bookmarked it and will maybe treat myself later in the month if I can't find some suitable controller binds!

So 1.4M copies sold. Not bad!

You think there would be more than 3000 people doing community goals then. Perhaps they aren't well enough publicised.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

I suppose the key questions are how many unique people log on each week, and how many of those spend more than a couple of hours a week playing? 1.4m sales might only equate to a few tens of thousands playing for more than, say, 5 hours a week. At that point you're talking 5% - 10% of your regular player base contributing, which sounds a lot better than 0.02%

EDIT: not to mention how many people have probably bought it but it's sitting there unplayed in their Steam library

I wonder what the rolling player base is? For most games only a fraction of people who had a copy are still playing a year later.

But also CGs take place in one particular place.. if you boast about 400 billion stars or whatever then you can't expect all that many people to be at that place. And finally, many CGs aren't actually all that much fun, tending to reward repetitive actions!

Well that is certainly true this week. Another onionhead trucking CG but only over 80ly so the payout will be rubbish, or pirate hunting in a pirate free system. I shall be spending the weekend in Lugh helping the Crimson State Group which should also help my combat rating.

Add to this how I can usually make more Cr in one or two days than I would from a whole week of contributing to a Community Goal... and don't even get me started on PowerPlay!!

I think one of the attractions of CG is that it gives a more or less flat return, regardless of where you are in your Elite progression - other things scale so the richer you are, the more money you can make.

Of course, this results in the situation you describe - veterans don't do them for profit. But then they do at least shake up the progression a little bit. I obviously joined at just the wrong time - late so I'm low on assets, but not late enough I could benefit from the free ship new players now get

I'd like to join in some more of the story/mystery based stuff, but it's targeted at Horizon's players now, not base game.
