Oh you certainly wouldn't do them for profit. Most recent ones I have done because I was working on my combat rating and it added some direction to the pew pew with the possibility of a few extra credits on top, but mostly I was trying to get/stay into the top 5% bracket
I think we need more goals like the ones where how good a new station is depends on how much metal people can ship to the construction site. That has a lasting impact on the game, and a feeling of involvement.
But then my current signing up with the rather nice people at http://crimsonstategroup.com/ is for fun, and I am probably making a couple of million per hour so maybe half what I could make with minimal effort if I was grinding for credits? Before that I was grinding up the navy ranks, which again makes a bit of money but not much so you really have to want those ships that get unlocked.
Once I earned my trading 'conda, profit kind of dwindled as a motive really.
Oh. That one.
I see.
I don't have one. Only ever had the Freegle.
I thought it was merely access to the ship, rather than actually giving me one!
I want my free ship!!!
Unless I played more than 10 hours, in which case I missed out anyway...?
I know there were discussions about giving Alphas and Betas (of which I am one) a free one of the last five ships to be released, out of the 30 planned ships... or something like that. Seen a couple threads from people who don't have it and were making noises... I don't have one of those either, so I've no idea what they're on about.
Maybe they've upped things... I have a Type 9 and a Python, but every CG has earned me about 4-6mil or less. Supposedly there are collective payouts at 1, 2, 5, 8mil and more, but I haven't received any of those from the last few CGs I did either.
Payouts have been very varied, from insultingly low to stupidly large.
A payout of 20M for people in the top 5% has been quite common, but often prices have been inflated as well so you might do very well on trading or bounties and then the 10M or whatever as a reward is just a nice have.
I think that is where the current CG falls down, you can't run rares a distance of 80ly and get a really good return. That and a lack of interesting story line.
I gather people are still heading out to Robigo for high profit thrills. Not tried that yet, might be worth a play.
Never managed to get above the top 15% when I really tried and that was with a whole week off work, flying trades for 16 hours almost non-stop for five days solid... That earned me 8m Cr at the end. The more recent ones never got paid out, so I swore off CGs until it got fixed.
Remind me what's happening there?
I've lost touch lately, because someone bought me Shadow Of Mordor for Christmas...!!
Apparently if you do missions then the payout goes up with distance travelled. A couple of months ago they nerfed it, but it sounds like you could get missions that paid out 10M credits if you go to one of the furthest outposts, of which Robigo seems to be a favourite.
Sounds like the insane payouts are done, but you can still get millions riding on whether you can travel 300ly back to civilisation with a hold full of smuggled goods *without being scanned* and with baddies trying to interdict you as part of the mission. Kind of sounds fun to try at least once
Wants a stripped out Asp Explorer build by the sounds of things so you can do 30ly jumps and have good range yet haul 50 to 80T, from googling it seems there aren't even that many suns out there that you can skim. Some use a Python, but that takes a lot more hops over that sort of distance.
Well I bought a second Asp Explorer and kitted it out as a rares/shadow running ship as I am fed up with re-fitting my current exploration Asp. Went out to Robigo, took a bunch of Shadow run missions worth about 4M each on average, almost got to the first dropoff point and was interdicted by a Vulture. That wouldn't have been a problem, just boost and run, but a police ship was there and I got scanned so there went all the missions. Finished the journey, repair the ship, sell the slaves in my hold at a black market and back out for another go. This time the missions weren't worth quite as much, and I almost delivered them but botched approach to a station so go scanned and lost the last two missions worth about 5M between them.
So that was a few hours spent at the end of which I think I made about 10M which isn't enough to cover the cost of the ship, but it was fun
Are you using heatsinks where exiting SC at the station? Started dropping a heatsink before I drop out then making sure I'm near zero heat sig all the way to the station entrance.
Man/woman up ya big jessy.
Best way not to be scanned is to dock as quickly as possible.

That was my method. Works fine usually, even if a scan gets started you are inside before it completed. Seems it works unless there is a few million at stake then I find myself about to miss the slot and having to slow down and turn and there just isn't going to be enough time. Nerves of jelly eh
Do chaff launchers throw off a cargo scan like they do a kill warrant scanner?
So no, I don't even have heatsinks fitted. But then I have an A4 power plant in a size 5 slot in that Asp to keep the weight right down. That gives me something like 13 jumps for the ~350ly trip, but a bit of a power problem. Might need some more tuning.
So I took on a commander griefing other commanders at the Alien site (Merope 5C, -026.3496°, -156.4044° if you're interested). All I can say is don't take on an Imperial Cutter in a Vulture

I'm there at the moment. Not seen anyone causing trouble yet though, but a 4x railgun FDL might have something to do with that.
