    Re: Elite : Dangerous

My suggestion wasn't to change your bindings completely but instead take advantage of using an alternating control scheme that switches back and forth depending on whether or not you have your landing gear up or down. That way you can bind left and right movements for those moments when you need precise control only but then leave the control options to how you want to fly when you don't have the landing gear down.

I do this with my flight stick, for normal flight the directional hat controls power distribution then for docking it controls the thrusters for up, down, left and right.

Hmm, sounds like it will make things more complicated than it's worth.

However, I am now even more pissed off than ever and really considering why the heck I just dropped £50 in to something that allows little ****BAGS to ruin your game. I just lost ANOTHER bucket load of money due to some asshat ganker killing me as I was trying to dock and I couldn't do anything about it, nor did any local "police" stop him. What kind of crap is that about??

And to make it worse, I can't even find a way to communicate with him to ask him why he did it and to "thank" him for YET AGAIN ruining my fricking day!!!

Partly it's not finished yet, partly PvP games take into consideration the fun of the ganker as well as the victim. There will be a solo mode though.

Then it's solo mode only for me from now on until they fix it. Ganking is seriously lame and I don't want to lose many hours of gameplay just because someone has to stomp on kittens to get their jollies off.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

The other alternative is to use the Private Groups feature where players can get together and go hunting, or some play protection whilst others trade etc... Or simply play the way that MadAussie and I were playing the other night where we went to the Federal Distress Call and shout down a load of federal fighters together. At the moment we can't pick the names of the groups, at least as far as I can tell, so my group is called KeyboardDemon, look me up and join, there doesn't seem to be an invite option so I can't add you that way.

Doing well in solo so far, no idiots around to ram or gank me.

Got the hauler, running a route with 20k profit for a round trip of 6 jumps, very tasty! Saving up for the Lakon Type 6 now, 100 cargo capacity, think of the possible profits!

Will be a while before I can get the Lakon Type-9 Heavy though, but it looks fantastic!

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Ooh, I wanted to ask, will there be a feature sometime allowing you to have more than one ship? I know Elite and Frontier: Elite II didn't, but it would make switching between hauling and combat much easier than buying and selling new ships all the time.

Yes, but they'll be docked at a station and you'll need to go to the relevant dock to switch ships. There's talk of the larger ships being able to transport smaller ones, but that's not confirmed yet.

Best thing about the Type 6 is the range - opens up all the profitable extraction sites on the edge of the bubble , oh and have fun docking it lol.

Maybe they fixed it, but if you hit the exit from supercruise a little *too* well, you would materialise inside the superstructure of the space station, leading to a fast and fiery death.
For that reason I now (at 30km/s) wait until i've just passed the station, wait a further half second, then hit drop - always places me about 10k behind the station.

There's also talk of a delivery service so you can have your shipped delivered to the port you are docked at in the same way that you can have cars delivered for collection in some driving based games, but no confirmed information on how this will work as yet.

Can't say I've come across that, I just wait for the Destination Lock Engaged sign and exit SC. :S

Glad you're having a little more fun Allen, I'm clawing my way to some cash as well. Went looking for cargo in the Anarchy regions hoping for some gold but in the end wasted a couple of hours - only found toxic waste!

Yeah, I am now, but don't want to always play in offline mode, so hope they introduce some form of "newbie protection" soon. I probably did overreact a little yesterday, but it was harsh enough that I kept crashing and losing everything to then get blown away by someone and lose a lot, for absolutely no reason.

Ooh, what's this then? Is it somewhere anyone can go? I have been watching a few combat vids where there's lots of dogfighting around big cruisers, I wanna have a go of that! But I think I will definitely need gimballed lasers as targeting with an Xbox 360 pad is not gonna be easy! Is there much of a credit loss by swapping back and forth between combat ships and haulers right now? Or any sign of ship swapping in the near future?

I'm sure there must be a better way but from experience this is what I do now:
    A) When you've got someone in your sights(and targeted) they have three visual markers at the front and rear sides of their ship - keep watching these.
    B) If they disappear(i.e line up and going flat) then that ship is either heading straight away or straight towards you
    C) Strafe to avoid the collision(or at least a full head on collision) - I find horizontal strafe to be more effective, but you can try both
    D) Whilst doing all of the above, get full pips into shields - they are *much* more effective at 4 than at 1 or 2
