    [Teamspeak-ENDED] Discord

    Hi Guys,

I have set up an Un-Official teamspeak for Hexus.

At the moment its only a small 20 slot server which was intended for use in BF and DayZ. I have set pretty strict permissions on it, so when you access as a guest you can only get into the lobby, which has a couple of channels and you are free to use, but i will need to give you permission to access the other groups.
I'm keeping it strict for the moment whilst i understand how right managements work properly. You can get permissions by me giving you them whilst I'm on the server (use the 'poke' function) or if you PM me your unique ID (Settings -> Identities).

Once people i recognize are added, i will give them user permissions to access the other channels and perhaps a reserved slot. If this proves popular and i start getting close to the limit of the server regularly then i will buy a few more slots.
I would like to set it up so that 'approved users' can also set other users to have access to the other channels... but im still learning.

Please use the same nickname that you use on the forum as your nickname, then it will speed up the time it takes to give you permissions.

    Server details:

    85.236.100.121:11327

    no pass

    UPDATE

This service will be terminated by 27 Nov 2016

instead we will now be using Discord which can be accessed via this link:

    Re: Teamspeak

I'm assuming that means you have had to put some £££'s into setting all of this up?

Have you considered the possibility of getting help from Hexus members towards running costs, when I was looking at it before I think it worked out to around $30 for 12 months to get a server with capacity for around 32 participants and then $50 for 64 participants. If 10 of us were willing to throw in $5 each we would have enough for a few games to be on the go, such as Dayz, BF3/4 and maybe even Elite: Dangerous.

    Re: Teamspeak

MadAussie also offered to help out this evening and i appreciate those who suggest it.
This is just a TS server. Its costing me £2.40 for this month for 20 slots, then £4.40 onwards if i keep it.

Honestly not worried about that kind of pocket change and happy to go up to £10 or so if it proves popular. I'm not trying to come across like a big shot money bags or anything, but trying to crowd fund it it more hassle then its worth, i just want to try and get the gaming element of Hexus together with no possible tension based on transfer of money

Honestly guys, don't feel like you have to help out, just enjoy the service and let me know if you have any suggestions for improving it.

Im not going to be a power Nazi and start booting people because they annoy me or anything daft like that, im not even claiming its an official teamspeak. I just want to start gaming with the community in a more social manner.

    Re: Teamspeak

Well, the offer is still open if you change your mind. I didn't offer as I thought it might not be something that you can afford, I just thought that if a few of us put in a small amount then you'd only need to make a one off payment to TS in order to cover the facility costs for a full twelve months instead of making regular monthly payments.

    Re: Teamspeak

I genuinely appreciate the gesture, i really do.
Thing is, i think there is a reasonable chance that this doesn't get used much and the TS ends up being empty a lot. If that's a the case then no-one will feel hard done by this way.

All I ask in return for my expendature is that if people are playing games in the evening, please use the service so that I'm not wasting my own money and we can get to know each other better

It was quite a laugh listening in! I'll dig out my head set & see how I get on with in next time - I spend a lot of time waiting to re-spawn, so at least I'll be able to chat then!

If it does end up being an on-going thing, like others I'm happy to contribute to the cost of the TS server. Incidentally, were you using the mic auto-detection, or push to talk settings? The auto detection would be easier for me of course, but I just wondered how effective it is?

    Re: Teamspeak

If you have a half decent headset then it works pretty well. I use a webcam mic, so if i try and use it, it has a habit of bering triggered by my noisy mechanical keyboard. If you spend a bit of time weaking the settings, as well as the settings built into your soundcard, you might have good results. Very much just a case of testing it and finding out.
If you end up being able to talk and game the way you do, i will be even more impressed than i already am!

    Re: Teamspeak

I've got a Jabra headset which is noise-cancelling, which is pretty good. But as I mentioned before, when I've tried using headsets in the past while gaming, they tend to wiggle loose quite often as I'm moving around. I've been Googling throat microphones though, like to type used by US Seals! Not sure what the audio quality would be like, though.

You might not be quite as impressed with the amount of swearing I do...I was getting my ass kicked last night, & the air was blue to say the least!

Last night we were playing Battlefield 4, but I think Biscuit is keen to use it with DayZ too (not a game I've got myself). Which ever game we end up playing though, I'm pretty sure you'll be better at it than me!
