Question Jurassic Park Operation Genesis for Windows 8.1?

I tried to find something on this issue but didnt seem to find any on it. Sorry if its already been discussed. I am trying to install the game on my win 8.1 pro system and it keeps saying failed to start Direct 3D. Please make ensure direct X 8.1b is installed and Direct X8.1b drivers for the video card. Can some one please help me out here. The game works beautifully on both of my other 7 systems but not on my win 8.1 system

    Sincerely LT Frustrated

I've heard of some issues with this game on W8 as well. Some people have it working fine and others can't get it to work, something about the installation goes haywire.
Your problem is strange. Have you tested your Direct x?
Click start, type dxdiag in search box and press enter.
It could be something to do with it running in the wrong resolution
But I couldn't know for sure
You could also troubleshoot your display settings, or turn hardware acceleration to full. I'm not familiar with W8 but it should be somewhere in appearance/personalisation in control panel. Display settings>>Advanced settings>>>troubleshoot>>>change settings. Some games don't run at all unless direct 3d hardware acceleration is on.
You could try updating your graphics drivers
If none of that has any effect I also have no idea.

Re: Jurassic Park Operation Genesis for Windows 8.1?

I am guessing that you are installing this off a disc as it is not available on Steam, GOG or any other of the digital download stores that I can find.

First off, one of the biggest things with older games and modern versions of Windows is using the standard install directory, usually in C:\Program Files. Trouble with this is that when you install there it can stop the game or program from working due to the way Windows Vista and newer manages security and harmful applications. So uninstall if you installed there and re install into a root directory, something like C:\JPGenesis. During the install process if you go advanced then you will get an install location request, this is where you want to install it, you don't have to create the directory beforehand as the game will create it for you. If there is a button to install DirectX also check that and any of the other options it may want to install.

If that doesn't work try these suggestions next :

If you browse the contents of the disc there should be a Direct X folder, if you go in there it will either have just the version you need or a long list of different earlier versions. If it is a list (they are usually zipped) fine the one it is asking for open it up and install it.

I would also suggest instead of just running the exe file from inside the zip to actually extract it to a hard disc folder either on your desktop or on the root of your C drive.

Once extracted you then install from there, I would suggest running the setup file as administrator, if you don't know how to do this you right click the install exe file and left click the option that says run as administrator.

Next thing to try after this is running the game under compatibility.

To do this find your install folder and right click the games startup exe file and select properties at the bottom. Click the compatibility tab and select run as XP then apply at the bottom of the Window.

If you need more detailed instructions give me a shout and I will do a more comprehensive type guide for you.
