I tend to recommend the Asus M5A-97 EVO R2.0 as a good solid board (make sure it is the EVO model). It is what I bought a while back, Amazon usually have a good price in the UK.

    Re: building pc

I think you have to give us a better idea of what money you are hoping to spend. Example:

    £69 motherboard http://www.amazon.co.uk/M5A97-EVO-R2.../dp/B008RPZ5H8
    £74 FX 6300 CPU http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-FX6300-E.../dp/B009O7YORK
    £130 AMD 270 GPU http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-256.../dp/B00GNE0CHI

So £273 for that lot and lets see what questions it throws up. For starters:

1/ Is that too much money or are you happy to spend more?
2/ Do you have RAM, PSU, Case, hard drives etc lined up.
3/ Do you have a copy of Windows
4/ Do you already own the games, someone might find a bundle deal.

Intel have a large market share, so you will see that.

If you want the fastest machine possible (and are happy to pay the money) then that means an Intel i7 or Xeon system. On an enthusiast site you will find plenty of people who want the fastest machine possible.

AMD tends to be better when the budget is tight.

If you missed it (it was buried), he did specify earlier that:

i.ve got case htpc power supply 750w sata 250 gb so just need to spend 250 on motherboard, cpu ,ram)
To the OP: It would be good to know what power supply that is. Some of the cheaper ones are really unreliable, so if you plug in an expensive graphics card it might cause a lot of damage. The wattage number means very little - the brand and model indicate the quality, which is much more important.

OK, so I guess we drop some GPU cost to include RAM.

    £69 motherboard http://www.amazon.co.uk/M5A97-EVO-R2.../dp/B008RPZ5H8
    £74 FX 6300 CPU http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-FX6300-E.../dp/B009O7YORK
    £72 AMD 260 GPU http://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-R7-260-O.../dp/B00HYFIZU6
    £36 4GB of RAM http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMX4.../dp/B004K2SD4E

So about £251, a quid over.
