As a big fan of co-op games in general, & 'Left for Dead' in particular, I'm quite excited about 'Evolve' - it looks like it'll be lots of fun!

I was at first but the latest beta's and pre-order information has put me off.
They have severe balancing issues with the monsters at the moment, they can just run and hide until they feed upto rank 3 and then they are unstoppable. Soon as people figure that out every game is the same and just not fun.
Then there is in the ingame leveling... You start with one of each class unlocked and each class has 2-3 other guys to unlock. The requirements are very specific to the point where its just not fun. You can be the best person in the world on 95% of what that class can do, win every single match, kill everyone with style but if there is one aspect of a class you aren't great with (trapping or a certain weapon for example) you can't progress.
With brings me to the pre-order... Pre-ordering unlocks EVERYTHING from the get go AND gives you a monster that they are going to charge $15!!!!! for which isn't just a nice thing to give pre-orderers it makes it a pay to win/requirement if you are interested in the game...
I hadn't heard about the pre-order faff...that's a bit rubbish really.
Yep, I can imagine that balancing a game like this would be a bit of a nightmare, given the inherent asymmetry of the monster vs hunters...
Balancing can be sorted and I'm not even that fussed if its broken on release (would be a shame tho) as many games have balancing issues that are worked on once they get the numbers in game and some feedback from the community. Same with the unlock issues.
Pre-order is something else, they have already said what people are getting so they can't exactly take it away.
I was getting interested in this game but when they started to announce their future content plans before the release and when they stated that from the ground up Evolve was made as an easy mechanism to push through DLC content.
Early on I was looking forward to it because it was a good co-op game but which looks like great diversity for the hunters. It looked like it may get boring for the monster. Hulk smash. Hulk scream, jump etc...
But now with the many Pre-Order plans they have announced this has turned me off and is now looking like Pay to Win.
An additional point is if you are in a game with randoms and we know people will dick about. The hunters will be at a bit disadvantage e.g. Tracker ****s around and does not trap the monster in a preferable location for the hunters. Then winning the rounds would get harder. But this part is negligible and not a deal breaker.
I saw some videos about a year ago and thought it looked quite cool and a bit different/fresh.
But after a while I started to think that it would have limited replay value. Yes, every game should pan out a bit differently but ultimately it's going to be same-old, same-old.
Have there been any details about post launch DLC? If they are going DLC heavy like this preorder thing its probably not worth going for it :(
I was interested, but that was utterly eradicated by the day 1 DLC. I don\'t mind offering a full upgrade unlock as a preorder bonus, but by giving the people who preorder an otherwise unobtainable/£15 optional monster that is OP.... Sorry but no.
Absolute shaft faces.
So sick of DLC being heavily monetised. :(
I think I will wait untill a steam sale and its under 15 quid. I heard that it has 120$ worth of dlc thats not even covered by the season pass.
Kind of excited before but now I felt it was overhyped
bought it and played a couple of hours last night, only played solo so far. i have to admit to quite liking it. its certainly a nice little twist on the survival genre.
probably going to try it online tonight.
