It looks awesome and I can't wait :D :D
This game looks pretty fun.
OMG!!!
Homeworld, one of my absolute favourite strategy games :) looking forward to this for sure!
I wonder if the remastered version will fix the odd turtle LAN lag issue that sometimes pops up despite having very capable hardware?
Released on Wednesday!! :D WOO!
They have actually redone all the multiplayer, combined 1 & 2 into one portal so that you just open Homeworld multiplayer and HW1 and HW2 will just be gamemodes to select. They talked about being able to do HW1 units in HW2 engine etc but not sure how far they got with that.
I wonder if they will ever do a remaster of cataclysm too?
Nothing like playing a LAN game of that with my father and a few others, siege cannon incoming.... what do? hyperspace out? out of credits? crap! getting that dreadnought in there with repulse just in time to fire it right back at them :D
Yeah some of my fave multiplayer moments have been from the HW series.
As for Cata, the problem is it was a different company that did it and there is talk that a lot of the assets have been lost. There is some more information here but a lot of it is rumor.
We can hope ;)
Must buy, must play through the entire story all over again, that nostalgia :D
This is the only game I have ever preorded! Looking forward to have another homeworld session!
I've been off rts for quite some time (the excellent offworld trading company notwithstanding) but I really really want this to be epic.
Adagio for strings still gets me right in the feels. Hopefully they've been able to update the engine successfully and the interviews I've seen really makes it appear to be a labour of love rather than a shameless cash grab but I've been burnt too many times to let myself get really excited.

Article goes into details about the changes to the game play mechanics- basically Homeworld 2 remains unchanged mechanics wise but HW1 has been ported into those systems (changing UI, removing fighter fuel, adding research cost, adding wreck salvaging)Quote:
When Gearbox won the bid to the Homeworld licence, it certainly raised eyebrows, and saw a mix of hope and fear for the franchise, particularly as the new team formed by many of the original Relic developers failed to get it themselves. And then Gearbox announced that, in collaboration with those aforementioned developers, they would be releasing a full remaster of the two main games of the franchise, with a heavy visual upgrade to boot.
Many a Homeworld fan had to change their pants at that moment. And now, it’s finally here. After seventeen years, Homeworld fans have the opportunity to once again explore the original classic duo, reborn anew with flashy coats of paint. At least, they have the opportunity to do so without resorting to arcane pc magic to get it to work.
Is it worth it? Here’s a spoiler: It totally is. If you’re a fan of the franchise, you’ll absolutely adore the remastered edition.
Information about the combined multplayer beta (as they are still balancing) includes a new MP mode called Relic which is a capture and hold mode which sounds very good :D
Game unlocks at 7pm tonight on steam, CANT WAIT! :D
It was tweaked, but the principle remained the same - if you had a large fleet the next mission was much harder, even if your fleet was completely the wrong composition for the next mission. So you had to meta game and either scuttle or swap over for different units having got pre-knowledge of what was coming up next.
I never knew that! That would be annoying in the first game as I remember in the penultimate mission, there was a massive sphere of enemy ion frigates guarding something. I would then patiently kite one at a time and use my salvagers to capture it! I then had a stupid number of ion frigates (30+ IIRC) for the last mission!
This all looks good, but as I said before, modding the remastered game is going to be the most interesting bit for me long term.
Hoping in vain for a Linux port of this. Aspyr did Civ 5 and Borderlands 2 ... I really want to give them money for this too! :)
I caved and bought this today, I was hoping my resolve would last a few days for user reviews but it didn't; at least I didn't pre-order it. Which was an achievement as I am a massive fan of both games and put 100's of hours into both, I completed HW2 for about the 8th time only a few months ago.
Initial impressions are good, performance is good and I can confirm it's certainly homeworld. I can appreciate the effort that has gone into this, the cut-scenes in particular look amazing. Any criticisms so far? well the HW2 UI feels a bit intrusive - but it could be that I need to play with the UI scale, and one of the battle-chatter voices refers to an assault frigate as a flak frigate which annoyed me more than it probably should have.
I just got my ass handed to me on the 6th mission of the original campaign, nice to see they haven't nerfed the difficulty - although I suspect it was HW2's difficulty balancing at play as I breezed through the 5th mission.
Also if you use MSI afterburner make sure to disable your OSD otherwise you will get an unreadable mess in the menus.
So happy with the game. The tutorial was crap and kept bugging out for me but its not really needed so not fussed about that.
Just finished mission 6 (astroid belt) and man the game is beautiful. Wish I could make the UI smaller tho.
Forgot about the difficulty in HW, Mission 5 was HARD! Was finding all the missions before nice and happy but then had to restart 5 multiple times... in the end managed to nab myself one of their destroyers and their carrier! WOOP!
So quick chat with mate at work it looks like it may be auto scaling like HW2 did.
Return to Kharak - I had 3 assault frigates attacking the trays, he had 2. That is a scripted scene with no carrier so it must of added one for me.
Also maybe its just me but was a whole Animation scene skipped of the of the destruction of Kharak?
Bought this yesterday and had my new laptop arrive also, not the best of the best but a nice 860m should make things look and run smooth as silk, can't wait to play! :D
Confirmation on this thread on mission 5. People have a massive mix of enemy units depending on what they took into the mission.
Also they confirm what I noticed - Amount of salvagers required to cap has increased: original game's 2/3/5 to 2/4/6 (Frigate/Destroyer/Carrier)
FWIW I had 4 assault frigates on my return to Kharak. 3 full health and one 2/3 healthy.
Further evidence of the auto-balancing difficulty.
Sure hope they fix any noted bugs in the foreseeable future
Had a crap day at work so decided to buy this. Its infuriatingly good :) And should run on my laptop :)
How is the multiplayer?
