    Cities: Skylines

Anyone got this yet? The reviews seem overwhelmingly positive so far, which for some reason makes me sceptical.

I love city building games, from the classic SimCity 2000 back in my Amiga days to Cities XL (which was a bit of a disappointment, although it looked good), and so far what I have seen of Cities: Skylines it does look pretty damn good.

Price isn't too bad either, £23 on Steam but £10.99 on CJ's (£13.99 for the Deluxe edition)!

    Re: Cities: Skylines

Speaking to a guy at work today about it and he is raving about it (in fact he's talking to someone else about it right now )

It sounds a lot like Simcity 2000 on steroids and TBH, I think I am going to pick it up this week......sounds like replay value is going to be greater than SimCity as well.

    Re: Cities: Skylines

I didn't get SimCity due to the launch debacle, and was a bit let down by Cities XL (or XXL, whatever it was). The more I look at this, the more I want it. Might grab it tonight, but worried as I'm supposed to be taking a CCNA exam in just over a week, I don't want to get caught up in this just now!

    Re: Cities: Skylines

Mate got it last night and loves it. Everything the new Sim City should of been, spiritual successor to SimCity 2000 it seems.

May pick it up at the weekend off one of the key sites if its that cheap!

    Re: Cities: Skylines

I found Cities XL really really hard. Its seemed to basically be the other end of the city building spectrum as Simcity in its idea of realism. Is this still the case of have they made it a little bit more accessible for casual playing?

Mate said it was really easy to get started and start growing and it only starts getting harder once you get to a good size. Makes sense and sounds like a good way to ease you in. Haven't read any reviews on it yet so thats all I know.

Sounds pretty similar in a way to the way it used to be, but definitely worth a gander later tonight I think!

    Re: Cities: Skylines

i've played a few hours so far and it seems very solid, the simulation is much better than what the latest simcity was offering, it's not perfect as i've followed people going to work and parking in a random factory car park and then walking a good distance to get to work but that's a moot point! and it has mod support

the first person mod is my favourite at the moment - http://i.imgur.com/CDYVa0G.jpg

    I was tempted by this.
Might have to look at some reviews and gameplay vids.
Seems to be largly positive responce for the game though.

Did some more research last night and was quite disappointed by the lack of multi-player.

It was one of the features I really liked about SimCity 2013.

Loving this so far, building a very nice city. There are a few bugbears like not knowing why buildings are being abandoned (can be quite a pain when you have industry being demanded, yet half your industry sector is abandoning their buildings) and not being able to easily connect with the motorways, but those aside it's pretty fantastic!

Yeah I picked it up over the weekend and really enjoying it so far.

Industry being abandoned seems to be happening for me due to either the resource running out (if running a ore/oil town) or lack of employees. You can click on the buildings to see what their status is.

Oh I've made some horrific on/off ramp systems getting my Industry area linked up to the highway... I will be replacing things with a 4 way intersection as soon as I can justify the money!

There are a few things on the workshop that are worth grabbing:

Upgrade between one and two way roads - Must have!
Enable Achievements while mods are running - I don't feel bad about this one as I'm not using 'cheat' mods.
Maxis Lead Designer - He's started making building for Cities:Skylines!
    Unlock more than 9 tiles
    Brush Trees
    Auto bulldoze abandoned buildings
    Loads of cosmetic additional buildings
    Some more interchanges

Oh and this is a great post on Traffic Management: https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkyli...ming_the_game/

I picked this up last night from GamePlanet (France) for £17, but haven't booted it up yet... Took too long to download & install. I can't wait for steam to allow simultaneous playing & downloading.

Looks really good from what I've seen "broadcast".

You can see why buildings have been abandoned, it's bit the most intuitive bit of ui design, but if you mouse over the abandoned logo on the details screen it will tell you.

I'm quite enjoying it - have only got to about 60k before scrapping and restarting twice though. You seem to get to a certain scale when the traffic management just runs away from you when everyone uses one lane of a 6 lane Road because they need to turn in about 3 miles

I've got the game, and can't see that. I don't know if i'm doing something wrong. But the ikon tells me the buildings abandoned, but doesn't say why.
