    Re: The Witcher 3

Out of the box it's a little jerky and unpleasant on my 7970, will have a tweak this evening. In all honesty I on.y had time to watch the opening sequence and see if I wanted to play with a controller or keyboard/mouse as with the previous 2.

    Re: The Witcher 3

That sounds interesting. Looks like small tweaks already coming out of the woodwork. I'm pretty certain that in a couple of weeks that things will be fine. Things that I would typically crank such as shadows look great even on low/med so might look to step things down to hit 50 at 2560x1440. For me, vegetation density, water and textures are what I try to keep high, as for me that makes the biggest difference to the world view.

Almost at the point where I might be happy to start playing it properly

Just wondering. Are there specific physics (or Physx) effects that are for Nvidia cards only? Trying to see if there is a way to enable them whilst still on AMD GPUs. Will have to have a google later tonight, I'm sure I saw videos with extra particle effects. However, there doesn't appear to be an option for it, unlike say for example borderlands, where you could select to turn it on even on AMD hardware (and shift it to CPU or something). Makes me think if its baked in and just the game detects your hardware.

    Re: The Witcher 3

Running nicely and looks awesome on PS4, so far only watched the intro, done the tutorial (button layout is different to 360 pad) and arrived at White Orchard after a run in with a Gryphon.

Few slight stutters on cut scenes but nothing overly drastic.

The end of the tutorial gave me the chills with everything frozen and the ghostly ship of The Wild Hunt.

But new toy and currently waiting for the 2.75Gb Bloodborne patch to download

The word is that all nVidia Physx calls are done on the CPU regardless of hardware/platform.

Hope so. Just in the back of my mind I swear I saw a YouTube video with loads of effects on aard and igni and thought it didn't look that way on my play through. Will have to give it a try out tonight and compare to any vids I can find.

    Re: The Witcher 3

don't want yet another Witcher 3 thread, so, here have some Collectors Edition photos:

    ker-chop!!

hes slightly bigger than Edward Carnby from Alone In The Dark 2008 CE

    and around the back

grrrr, menacing snarl - seems to one of the better ones, quality wise, theres a massive thread of disappointment over on the cdpr forums, of badly painted, broken and missing pieces.

there there, poor monster, the Argonath Statues will pat it better.

medallion, at book, steelbook (different picture on other side) and a banana for scale

medallion is a bit bigger than the nurgle symbol from Warhammer: Battle March CE

meawhile Gollum looks on, wondering if he can make it all his preciousses

theres also a fancy box thing to put everything in, and the standard retail package with the discs and soundtrack.

*please note, everything pictured didn't come with it, some are included for artistic purposes.

    Re: The Witcher 3

I have gained a few levels, beaten the Cleric and wandering round the sewer type area trying to work out where to go, with the Souls games I knew where to be heading (Dark Souls at least, Demons looked at best path to be taking per level etc)

I think I am around 14 or so now, upgraded saw axe weapon once so far, started to get to grips with the combat.

Collected a madmans thought for insight but unsure whether to use it just yet. Also have the small music box to believe I need to be finding Gasgoine to be able to head towards next area. Pathfinding has been my biggest hold back, also the combat as it is a lot faster than their previous games and I am used to Sword & Board type setup.

Think I will follow the wiki tomorrow to get through this opening area

Then going to actually play some Witcher 3

    Re: The Witcher 3

just so you know, it works perfectly on my 750ti, 6 year old phenom2 x4 920 and slow pokey mechanical hard drive.
it's silky smooth, hairworks is enabled and 0 crashes so far.

don't know why anyone bothered buying new graphics cards for this..

    there is one problem though.

if I turn up the settings past Low and turn on some of the post processing effects, it runs like an asthmatic granny climbing some stairs whilst carrying the box the CE came in

at least when I upgrade (whens the next competition drawn on here?) it'll look very nice, adds to the replay ability factor in my eyes.

I'd say save up for the hunters axe and let that be your main weapon. I used it until the end. It's just soo epic. I found myself summoning help more than the previous games(mainly for bosses) but I have enjoyed the faster pace and the heal system.

Im doing a replay of witcher 2 before I start witcher 3.

    Re: The Witcher 3

    hehe

After a few tweaks I'm now running pretty much everything on high settings with hairworks on and it's fast enough for combat to be pretty smooth so far. Think the little 7870 is punching above its weight (and technically my CPU is below min. spec.. but we know that's a bit of nonsense).

Nice. I got too much of a drop with hairworks on, although I am running at a higher resolution. Going to have another play with those settings again to see. I find shadows and foliage distance have the greatest affect on framerates, so I've put shadows at medium as I really cant see any difference, and foilage at high for now. the rest is at a mix of ultra and maybe high, and I can get a nice smooth 40-50 at that, riding around the open world.

Really want to get hairworks working, as I think it makes beasts look great, but might not be able to do it at my resolution until AMD releases 15.5 Beta.

One thing I do wish is that they had an option in game like Shadow of Mordor, which is at opposite of DSR/VSR. Basically I always try to select my native 2560x1440 resolution as even though the scaling is good, native is just that bit clearer, but in SoM you could say render less pixels in a % if needed you could have clarity of native, but performance of a lower res.

Smoothness makes a massive difference in combat though, less so in general traversal. Overall I think its a beautiful game.
