    Re: The Witcher 3

Its a fun game but a bit disappointed for the map size, thought there would be more than eight areas to explore but I've just come across three. Everything is amazing and the fact that you can mod it is even better but JESUS CHRIST! Takes forever to gain exp or even level up

    Re: The Witcher 3

MAY BE A FEW VAGUE SPOILERS SO DONT READ IF YOU DONT WANT THEM

current game only goes up to level 35, so there isn't much levelling. you get more skill points from 'places of power', its more about the way you fight the enemies, than being a higher level than them and 1 shotting them with bigger swords.

I was doing quests 6 levels higher with some dodge key, bomb throwing button mashing.
tip: can use liquid food type and solid food type at same time, so can have 2 vitality regens going at once

last quest chain starts at 32 ish.

unpatched game cap is level 70 (its what the collectors game guide says ), but they've patched out any cap atall https://twitter.com/Marcin360/status/600953392954011649

theres rumours (someones looked into the game files) about a new game+ mode where the starter zone starts at level 40 ish. but that may be one of the DLCs.

if yours is taking forever to level up. the no xp bug is fixed in 1.05 patch, grey quests even give xp now.
although they did design it to take 80 hours for main quest + related side quests, 200+ hours if yu did everything. its just a matter of perception if you feel its taking forever.

theres way more quests than you need to get to level 30 ish, most quests are found exploring the ? areas on the map, use witcher senses to find the start points.

map size - twice size of GTA5, 4 times size of skryim and you are disappointed. not sure what to say on that.
I'm still finding new things in areas i've been through many many times.

the other areas that you visit - isle of mists, elf home, white frost town. you get there as part of the main quest. isle of mists is level 22 ish, have to do a few main quests in skellige to open it up, for example.
you can only get to these extra areas once however, so enjoy them while you are there. one of them you'll want to rush through very quickly though, unless you can hold your breath

124 hours in, main quests are done, had end credits, bit of a lacklustre ending though. still got 2/3 skellige and revisit about 1/2 velen thoroughly to do. but that may wait until the expansion hits. the first expansion, well, expands parts of velen and oxenfurt, 2nd one adds another massive area to go to.

can carry on playing after the quest ends, game just dumps you back at home without access to any of the main characters.

decided how im going to do the replay. There's certain main characters from witcher 2 that need killing in witcher 2. mwahaha, want to see how they handle the story if those chars never made it into the game.

anywaysy, next 2 DLC are out.

fools gold - go to lurtch in velen.
more gwent cards - unsure how you get these.

Good to see it's getting good reception. Gonna have to pluck up the courage to play the game a bit more lol, but kind worried about the hard lock crash issues it's been having. Not sure, might wait for a few more patches to roll out before I start playing properly. Also good to see that galaxy users has be getting numbers on a par with steam, which is impressive. Here's hoping the galaxy client will succeed better than uplay & origin did.

    Re: The Witcher 3

managed to find the only buyer of crossbow bolts in the entire game

the alchemist, in the church, north of the oxenfurt gate in novigrad. has 500 gold to buy stuff.

also decided to try it on ultra settings to see whether it'll work. and yes it does 22fps with hairworks on. latest 353.30 nvidia drivers, realtek sound drivers. (they affect fps too I've found) 1680x1050 res.

heres a handy video just because I also wanted to test shadowplay out.

as you can see, the alchemist is a little buggy, he's supposed to be there 6am - 6pm.

    hope it helps.

fyi, it was a 232MB file, recorded at screen res, 20 Mbps at 30 fps.

that just means you get value for money.

    my gameplay times were.

    witcher 1 40 hours.
witcher 2 50 ish (the save I have is the autosave after loc muine, so cant check gametime)
    witcher 3 125 hours

and with multiple ways to finish each game, that just adds even more replayability.
wither 3 for example, I went ahead and looked at the side quests on the wiki, theres about 1/3 of them I haven't even seen or found the start questgiver/location for. so my 2nd playthrough is going to be even longer.

probably looking at 300+ hours from start to finish, to explore and do everything.

    Re: The Witcher 3

I suppose so, also giving them time to resolve all the tech issues. First time I tried booting up W3 I was confronted by videos running at 16 fps T_T

    Re: The Witcher 3

Just finished it yesterday after 100 hours played. No spoilers but oh my god that is one of the best games I have ever played. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to buy it. The last third feels a bit rushed but not hugely and the fantastic gameplay and story for the first 2/3rds more than makes up for it.

Are you downloading straight from the GOG website, or using their client? Twitter is awash with people with issues with the latter.

    Re: The Witcher 3

    yey!

on a side note, if you ever want to reinstall windows due to various accumulated problems associated with a 5 year old windows install, then reinstalling witcher 3 is relatively easy. as long as you still have the witcher 3 installed directory.

    just reinstall galaxy,
    log in,
go to settings and point the 'install game to..' option at where the gog games were installed.
then click on witcher 3 in your library and the install button.
it finds the game already there and just goes through the file verify check. 5 minutes (might be faster on newer computer and SSD) later and job done, fully working witcher 3.

also found out Steam is similar. just point the 'steam library folders' in the options to where the steam directory is, and it automatically finds all previously installed games.

so to backup you just copy the entire directory where the game is installed, aswell as the save folder in 'my documents' then restore when needed.

just some info that you might want to know
