    PC gamepad controller

Looking for a controller to play a bit of Rocket League.

Is the Xbox 360 wired controller at about £25 the best plug and play option?

Not looking to spend a lot.

    Thanks.

    Re: PC gamepad controller

Xbox pads are recommended and generally the most popular. I tend to always use my xbox one pad on the PC at the moment

Either xbox 360 or even the new xbox one controllers can be used now with a microUSB cable or the Xbox adaptor for windows 10.

The BEST option is the XBox One Elite controller... I have held one and, despite hating controllers, this thing is admittedly flippin' AWESOME!!!

However, it's also awesomely expensive and so (thanks to how some games work) I too am going with a Genuine Microsoft™ wired XBox™ 360™ controller as the cheapest of the most realiable options!

    Re: PC gamepad controller

IIRC the 360 pad need to be wired or use the PC wireless receiver to work, the play and charge cable for the 360 pad is for power only.

    Re: PC gamepad controller

It is alot more precise and feels like its much better built. It also has a detachable micro usb cable so it can be used wirelessly if you choose to buy the receiver later.

    Re: PC gamepad controller

There is always the Steam Controller that could be worth consideration, although I would put my backing towards the wired 360 controller. Cheap, robust, reasonably comfortable and functional.

Does one need ultra-fine precision while just playing "a bit of Rocket League", though?

I would concur if the OP was quite seriously into several games that required a Pad... or even just an insane fanboy of one particular game (given that I was the one dropping over £150 just on peripherals for Freelancer)... but for casual-ish use, I would advise taking the cheaper, solid option... at least to start with, anyway.

If and when you find the need for something better, THEN you start phoning up your bank manager and explaining why you need the loan!!

I would also say the 360 pad, I have the wireless one, fairly cheap, reliable and works in pretty much all games.

    Re: PC gamepad controller

I got a wired 360 controller, (I now have 2) the other day from the High street for £25 (BNIB)... better than waiting for the post, for little extra over the ebay kind of prices. Also, easy to return if still in warranty.
Great controller works with all the games i've tried that i would need a controller for.

+1, use mine with rechargeable Energizer 2450mAh AA batteries, never timed how long they last but they last long enough not for me to notice frequency of recharging. Only thing that's happened in the pretty lengthy time I've had the 360 pad was the receiver just died magically one day. Taking it apart revealed a loose connection, after fix done never had an issue with it.

Never had any issue with the 360 controller and the bonus of it working so easily on Windows is that you can take it round to your mates and join in with him on whatever very easily.
