How do you improve BF4 Video performance (?)

Question - How do you improve BF4 Video performance (?)

What I am asking about is the random display of the film icon on the right side of the screen. I think this means dropped video frames??? Also I from time to time I get the clock and one other icon as well. By the way, I never gotten these icons before until when EA/origin went through a major update several months ago, maybe up to a year ago? I just know that after a certain major update, I started getting these icons.

    Currently my system consist of a Intel 3770K + 16GB memory + GTX670 + SSD pri drive

in game settings are at medium. My frame rates indicate 50~60 I think from the last time I checked. Internet service is 100/10 and does reflect on testing on my system which uses a NetGear AC1200 high gain Wifi usb 3.0 Adapter on a USB 3.0 port on my system.

I was wondering what I can do to improve my video performance to rid of all icons on the right side of the screen

I was thinking of getting a newer video card like say a GTX970 or maybe a new wireless router like a DLink 890L/R or the newer model DLink 885L AC3150, but on the other hand maybe I don't need either one of these and just need some tweaking (?).

    Advice would be appreciated.

The icons to which you refer were introduced into BF4 a couple of patches ago. They indicate server load, latency (lag), and packet loss. Obviously server load indicates server problems, whilst the other are client-side issues. From the specification of your PC, you shouldn't be having any issues running the game at medium detail levels - it sounds to me as if you're having internet connection issues. Firstly, it's always better to use a wired connection to your PC rather than a wireless link, particularly when gaming. Have you tried connecting to your router using an Ethernet cable?

I used to run at ultra on a 670 at 2560/1080. Not a grpahics problem. Definitely a network one. Have youtried different servers?

Re: How do you improve BF4 Video performance (?)

Thank you guys for your replies and advice.

I have done some tweaking with the in game settings. it helped a little bit but still comes back with less frequency.

@ MrJim - You know.... hate to say it but I haven't tried direct connect to the router or the cable modem with an Ethernet cable. I haven't done so because I didn't get this issue before the patch update. But now come to think about it, with the advent of the icons...... maybe I was getting it all along and that it was not indicating back then because there were no reporting. And now it is reporting it because of the patch. By the way, I was on a server that I had an average ping of 42, I went into Options and then into the diagnostic section within the game, did the testing and it reported I was getting 67 fps and no issues with all the other categories. Go figure.

@ herulach - I would agree with you. But then again maybe subconsciously I am looking for an excuse to upgrade to a 970, lol..... Yeah, I think I need to troubleshoot the network side of things first.

@ Firejack - yuppers, those be the icons. I mostly get the amber Low FPS and from time to time I get the ambers of the other icons san the refresh rate.

Guess at this point I need to try the direct connect to the router and cable modem with the Ethernet cable even though speed test shows full download/upload speeds (100/10). Maybe it is my router is spiking out (currently using a Netgear WNDR3700) and that transfer with games vs straight download like speed test are different in process and that gaming has a much more variance in response that the router may be getting induced lagged using the wireless side whereas the ether switch doesn't have that issue and definitely shouldn't have any issue connected to the cable modem directly.

Dangit..... I didn't bite the bullet and press the buy button for the DLink 890L/R last night... it was on sale for $246.00 (US). Guess will need to wait till the next sale if a new router is called for.

Again... thank you all for the assist. Next step for now is to test Network.

    GG.

Once you've ruled out network issues, there are a couple of other things you could try. I know it's obvious, but are your graphics drivers up to date? The other thing you could try is to go into Origin, right-click on the BF4 icon, and select 'repair game'. That might fix the frame-rate problem.

It might also be worth downloading something like msi afterburner or hardware monitor to check temps etc.

I was getting the low fps thing too. I noticed that nvidia ge force changed my settings. The main one being ssao to hbao(alot more taxing) I changed it back and am getting constant 60fps.

Re: How do you improve BF4 Video performance (?)

    Hey all.......

@ MrJim - my graphics drivers are up to date.

@ outwar6010 - monitoring video temps I have been doing all along as I too thought this might be an issue but to my surprise, the temps are well controlled. it idles at 29C and never goes any higher than 59C. I use EVGA utility thingie.

    update.............

it has been a good while since I have posted on this issue.... I hate to say it but...... I haven't done much.... lol... BUT with that being said.... magically, my drop frames icon now have disappeared... I don't have this issue any more. If any icon appears it is indicating it is on the server side.

So what might I have I done????? Shortly after i last posted.... i went to recheck my NVidia driver version. it is at the latest. But then, i noticed that the utility that you can have auto optimize your game had not been done (i think this gets resets with each newer version of this utility). So..... i click on the "optimize" button. Wham bam it does its thing. Well, from this point on, the frame drop icon is now gone..... even in the heat of battle with lots and lots of stuff going on the screen, still no frame drop icon. YAY!

With this news.... and just for the heck of it....

Last week, I went ahead and ordered a new router (DLink DIR-885L/R) to replace my Netgear WNDR-3700 (think i have had it for 5 years now) just to be updated and to be able to handle the multitude of wireless/wired devices i have now versus what i had back then. Looking forward to setting this up. I do know that everytime i upgrade my router with a newer one every few years, i do notice an increase in network speed and response, especially when having multiple devices going at once.
