That does look like a lot of fun. I haven't played a fast paced shooter for a VERY long time (probably Unreal Tournament 2k4, and I loved that game). Very tempted to pick this up but will probably wait for some initial reviews first and maybe the price to drop a bit. It will definitely be a change though as I have pretty much been exclusively playing Counterstrike:GO for the last 3 years...

Is the SP campaign just a chain of cheap jumpscares like Doom3, or is it like the trailers seem to show - blowing the hell out of demons to a heavy metal soundtrack like a badass?

I didn't like Doom3 at all, but the trailers for Doom look good.

I enjoyed playing it and I was just getting used to the jetpack/jump/climbing into higher areas feature by the time the beta ended at the weekend. I'm a maniac with the double-barrel shotgun and melee!

Well, despite my comment about SP versions, I can relate to your serial cable.

In my case, it was four PCs in my home office, four networks cards (mix of NE1000 and NE2000) and a co-axial BNC LAN cable(s).

The best option was 4 way over LAN using an older version of the EXE that allowed setting multiple viewpoints....the very first instance of surround gaming I ever witnessed and MANY years before I ever saw another implementation.

It was a bit overkill to have 3-4 PCs and monitors for one person though

Ah, now that's disappointing. I may try and get on the open beta mentioned above from 15th - 17th April and see what it's like.

The open beta is available now, they have tweaked a few bits.. dare I say it's getting a little boring now, but it's hard to say if its due to the limited demo or not.

Footage is emerging of the single player story mode. The earlier levels do look quite doom 3 like however the later levels are a bit more interesting, but still I'm wondering if this Doom will grab me.

Used to play Doom2 via modem links, the beta here I played for only a minute or two. Good games, would do again. Really looking forward to the multiplayer here though.

Played the beta multiplayer - seemed just another Q3 arena clone on small maps. I'll be waiting for the sale price on this one.
