I am soo pumped for this game. So I thought I'd start a discussion thread. Is anyone else planning on getting it?
Yeah, maybe, if it has a decent SP campaign. I don't care about MP.
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that, who cares?! He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!
it's Quake 5
and it will be ALL about the MP
14 cups of strong coffee and let me get at it......![]()

I hope the multi-player game is up to par. I have some very fond memories of playing the original Doom at uni, with me & a friend linking our PCs up with a long serial cable stretched between our rooms in our hall of residence! God knows how I passed my degree!
Well, despite my comment about SP versions, I can relate to your serial cable.
In my case, it was four PCs in my home office, four networks cards (mix of NE1000 and NE2000) and a co-axial BNC LAN cable(s).
They weren't gaming PCs as such, and I remember writing autoexec.bat files that put a boot menu on screen, selected Doom mode or normal, and loaded drivers, configs, etc according to whether my little group was Dooming or not.
It was way post-uni in my case though, and I couldn't reassemble my group (two distinct groups, actually) if I wanted to.
But it does bring back memories of great evenings .... and early mornings, and more than a handful of dawns, too.
These days, though, it'd almost certainly be vastly SP for me, even if I did have the occasional 2 or 3 player co-op game. But online MP gaming? Nah, not really. Occasionally maybe. Maybe.
Looking forward to it along with the map/mod making tools.
If they actually create SP like the following parody of the original Doom, then I couldn't care less for it.
I'm bored of pointless unskippable tutorials & intros and the "don't forget to press E" prompt every time you walk passed something, as though we'd forgotten since the last item.

I bought quake. I may well buy this new doom, depending on the multiplayer feedback...
