Patch details.

"We have deployed a client-side change that should improve
performance when large numbers of players are gathered in a small
area of the world. No other changes are included with this emergency
patch."

In English. "We've fixed the lag problems that everyone is complaining about (we hope)"

Hope it does sort out the lag issue.

I'm probably being a bit dim but do we need to dl the WoW patch or does it autopatch when you connect?

If it autopatches, should I dl the Cosmos patch and install that before launching the game?

WoW patches itself, as does Cosmos when you run Cosmos.exe.

One thing you might want to do is use Cosmos as the WoW launcher - then it keeps itself up to date automatically.

Immediately following a WoW patch there is often a delay while the Cosmos developers need to tweak their code to match - you may want to disable version checking of the addons through the "Addons" button on the character logon screen so that Cosmos doesn't disable itself entirely.

I followed some instructions from this forum, dl'd cosmos and extracted the zip files to the top level WoW folder. That's all I did. Where is the Cosmos.exe and how do I use it to launch WoW? I don't recall seeing an "addons" button at the character select screen. If it's not there when I check later, have I done something wrong?

I knew I should have stuck with vanilla WoW, I'm too old for all this techie stuff

I just went to the Cosmos download site and checked the contents of the release and alpha versions - Cosmos.exe is inside both of them.
http://cosmos.thzclan.com/#download

If you unpacked this into your WoW folder then Cosmos.exe should be there too - the rest of it creates a sub-folder "Interface" and dumps the files into there.

When you run Cosmos.exe it will check the versions of the files and download the latest ones, and you get buttons to configure Cosmos (keeping the Interface folder clean of unused files, option to remove Cosmos entirely, etc.) and to launch WoW.

The hyperlinks are not embedded - the sig is made up from 5 images stacked vertically, and each image is a hyperlink.

i.e.
[ URL=http://www.mysite.com/docs/mydoc1.html]
[ URL=http://www.mysite.com/docs/mydoc2.html]
[ URL=http://www.mysite.com/docs/mydoc3.html]
(Had to insert extra spaces so vBulletin doesn't try to interpet them.)

Oooooh yeah

Got a US account last December, currently have a level 48 gnome mage (Zif) and a level 35 dwarf rogue (Tig - no relation ) on Dalaran.

The benefit of playing on the US servers is that our play time is generally when they are in bed so the servers aren't so busy, and the game isn't heavily latency-dependent (I get between 150 and 250ms usually).

Currently of course I don't have access to the European realm list, I was originally intending to create Horde characters on a more local server... but I hear there have been logon queues, and they have suspended sales of the EU version for a couple of months as it has been so very popular.

The only drawback is the US servers are patched between 16:00 and 19:00 on a Tuesday, Swedish time - but I can work late those days no problem

I fully intend to try all the races and all the professions eventually, and I have fun using FRAPS to record scenes and make movies too.

It's a utility that adds a lot of extra functionality to the WoW user interface. Lot's of useful little things like, when you kill an NPC and right click to collect items, using standard WoW, even if there's nothing to collect, the item box still opens up, you see it's empty, you have to close it. Having Cosmos installed, you right click and if there's nothing to pick up you get a little on screen message telling you that and that's it. Also if there are items to collect, it opens the item box under your mouse pointer and not way off to the left.

There's loads of other stuff (I'm still finding my way around). It's really quite useful.

In my addons screen for cosmos there seems to be a version mismatch under questsharing, I will see if the update fixes this tonight but I just wondered if it was the same for others?

Edit: yes the patch fixed it

I just use Cosmos for the extra buttons, which Blizzard are supposed to be putting in soon anyway.
